A client of mine is looking for a freelance javascript programmer to work on a Google Cloud application. Must live in Pretoria or at a push Gauteng. Quite a complex project. If you're interested, please contact Daan on daanvermaas@gmail.com.by dianne - Jobs & Opportunities
I have a whole set of C++ books - both old text books (1-3 years) and reference books if you are struggling with the subject. (The text books do not always present the easiest way to learn!) Hi there, I have a friend looking for freelance developers for a short-term project that involves Google Docs as a distributed project management tool. He is looking for a javascript developer as well as someone who will assist them in using the final software over an iPhone (and I assume other SmartPhones). The main project is in PE, but I don't know that it matters where you work. Iby dianne - Jobs & Opportunities
Are there any tutors in Johannesburg (Bedfordview) on this new syllabus with Qt? Please contact me - I'm happy to pay I think I'm missing some basic principles here, and I don't even know anyone who works with C++ never mind Qt. I can't even get the Chapter 1 examples in the textbook to work. From the very first interface "What kind of project are you building" Iby dianne - COS2144
I found that in terms of actually trying to understand QT, its best to view the training videos on http://qt.nokia.com/developer/learning/online/training/specialized-elearning/fundamentals-of-qt There are many videos. I managed to get a much better understanding of what QT is about and how it is meant to work with object orientation, although it hasn't helped directly with either the couby dianne - COS2144

My textbook (eighth edition) has different chapters from the syllabus in Tutorial letter 101? They are equally also be wrong for the 7th edition of the book. Do I have the wrong version or is the Tut letter based on the 6th Edition (the chapters appear to match the 6th edition). The only difference I can find between the 7th and 8th edition seems to be 6 pages (499-506). There are 4 extraby dianne - INF303D

Beula Park turns out to be really close to Bedfordview - I have now written two exams there. Its huge and freezing cold but it's just a 10 minutes drive rather than the hour it used to take to Randburg. There is lots of parking off the road in a secure area. There are also trees which is going to be great in summer. If you're anywhere on the east side of Jhb you should definitely considby dianne - Social Cafe
I wrote to Unisa days ago about finding the Beula Park exam centre, and the deadline is Monday and I haven't heard from them. I'm told that Beula Park is in Elandsfontein and is a great place to write and not far from me, but since the Unisa exam centres don't give addresses I can't find it. Someone said they thought it was Germiston, but someone else said that Germiston iby dianne - Social Cafe
I finally opened one of my text books today and read chapter 1. Last year I was raring to go before Christmas, this year it's a real struggle. I'm hoping I feel more enthusiastic once I start. And its not just studying - my energy levels are rock bottom.by dianne - Social Cafe
It looks great - clean and elegant. Also more legible. Congratulations!by dianne - Social Cafe
I spent a month in hospital in my twenties, and the woman in the next bed (perhaps her early twenties) was a prostitute who had been stabbed by one of her clients with a butter knife. It pierced her lung. Lying in adjacent beds you get to talk a lot. There was nothing "different" about her due to her job description. She was an attractive, energetic, positive, decent person in everyby dianne - Social Cafe
I didn't get normal parcel post, but a letter in a yellow envelope (it looked like junk mail - no Unisa markings!) telling me to go to the parcel counter. This was around the 24th, and I registered on 26 November. I think they are running very late - the new registration process would have exponentially increased the number of items to be posted.by dianne - Social Cafe
Although I ended up doing well in the exam I found COS211X very difficult and I had to put in a lot of time and work over the entire year before the "penny dropped" around October. Afterwards I wondered why since by then it seemed so logical, but I do remember many months of stress beforehand. I don't think one should underestimate it, especially for those of us who don't pby dianne - Social Cafe

An interesting aside - I activated my MyLife account - it isn't optimised for Firefox. Basically to get to functionality like the rules you need to forward email, you'll have to use IE! The Firefox view is a basic but functional subset. The IE view is like a web view of Outlook 2007. Agonisingly slow. I set mine to forward automatically to gmail - who will weed out the spam. No-one over 5 CELEBRATES christmas - you survive it! At least you're a guy - all you'll do is eat, drink and watch sport. For women it's about staying up late to wrap presents (men mess up the first gift wrapped by doing it crooked, and women are dumb enough to fall for it and won't let them do more than hold the sticky tape!). My guess is that Unisa is getting a whole lot of freebies from Microsoft in exchange for a database of all these future graduates. Plus years of spamming them of course while they are studying. I think MS must be getting a bit desperate. And I wouldn't put it past Unisa to be accepting money and gifts for keeping the ICDL going also. I have been studying for 3 years now, and I've realised my business is suffering. Things seem to be very quiet when usually this time of year is chaos. All my big web projects that were due to kick off in October/November have been put off until January. Everyone seems to be waiting to see what the economy does, or simply exhausted and they don't want to face anything new. I have a cby dianne - Social Cafe
I'm staying home since all the holiday places are overrun with kids (and there is nothing like having a Jhb 6 lane freeway to yourself in the middle of the afternoon!), but I have a whole set of favourite places around Warmbaths. ok, I'm confused. My registration requires an email address - I kept my usual one although they have said they will disregard it in future. To get my new email, I have to register first. Now I have registered, it says to get the new login for the email I have to register at My Unisa. When I try to register at My Unisa it says I'm already registered. I did the certificate on my own a couple of years ago. I wrote at a local private school listed on their website. Actually it was a lot of fun being older and female at a boys private school. The teacher gave me tea while I worked! However I have not yet tried to get the credit based on the certificate so perhaps they will demand money for doing nothing. I got 82% for the subject I was worried I would fail (COS211X) and 62% for System Analysis which I loved but where they stuffed up the exam so badly. I haven't heard about Delphi but I think its going to be bad. I never thought to practice Delphi "handwriting" it, and in the exam I went blank about the most basic things. And I had hoped to do the new 2nd year one. Oh well.by dianne - Social Cafe
When I had to contact Prof Lubbe before he got very aggressive and defensive - trying to say that the reason why the model answers were completely incorrect was because the "book was wrong?" the book is about the only good thing about this course, and he said they were going to change it. I think its absolutely no use talking to him - he almost certainly didn't read the syllabusby dianne - INF206D
