I think the letters worked Passed as well (which I honestly did not expect)by Kyle - INF308J
So, how was it? Multiple choice was ftw Short questions I'm sure I conjured up some marks - think some of the MCQ's gave some of the short questions "half answers" away.by Kyle - INF305F
I think I was smiling from ear to ear when reading through the paper. Knew everything on it, so went through it without any concern (except running out of time). So, it contained: Essay on Caching and small caching question Sequencing (SJF, NPP) Deadlock Avoidance Page Replacement & Algorithms (FCFS, LRU, Optimal) File System Algorithms (Contiguous, Linked, Indexed - middle of the fiby Kyle - COS3216
From {C C C} {M M M} I thought the problem was lost, because if you sent the boat back with a Missionary, you would have {C C C M} {M M}. Ah well, I knew I was wrong, but I did use the same {} {} technique, so I'm sure there will be some sort of marks there for me. I don't mind not doing the COS361, I took some other cool subjects I wouldn't have otherwise taken, so I'm cool wby Kyle - COS351D
@Brett - Nice one, I enjoyed COS261, but decided one logic subject was enough torture and decided to go for something else instead, hehe. Goodluck for the rest (and everyone else)! @Scag - I assumed you needed the boat from when I googled it when I got home (http://www.jimloy.com/puzz/cannibal.htm). I even made a note on the exam saying I probably just didn't see the correct sequence, becby Kyle - COS351D
@brettc - Think we've done pretty much the same subjects all the way through so far. I'm guessing you've got COS3216 and INF305 left? I am officially taking today off though, will get onto the next horse tomorrow - think a days break is deserved after 6 exams.by Kyle - COS351D
So how'd you all find it? State Space - Damn puzzles in exams, but we knew it would happen. Didn't include the boat, which is why I couldn't get it. CSP - Assignment questions which I was truly amazed by, so I knew it from the beginning of the year Resolution Refutation - Not too bad, a few statements I didn't think needed to be there, so hopefully I'm right thereby Kyle - COS351D
I think I'm just going to go with the 6 marks. That notation just makes no sense to me (it's the <'s that catch me out). Shot for the reply tho.by Kyle - COS351D
Hey all, Looking at the past exam with Question 1 - I understand the state space and how to portray it (like in 1.2 the first answer). I can't seem to wrap my brain around the second notation however: Quote f3 : if 3< T then (3, F) f5 : if 5< F then (T, 5) e3 : if 0> T then (0, F) e5 : if 0> F then (T, 0) p3,5: if (5-F)<=T then (T-(5-F),5) else (0,T+F) p5,3: if (by Kyle - COS351D
As long as the fraction is a multiple of 10 or something simple like that, I't'd be ok: Quote= 3/10 * 0.98 = 3/10 * 98/100 = 294/1000 = 0.294 That kind of thing.by Kyle - COS351D
I wouldn't assume anything. At most I'm assuming they give us simple fractions.by Kyle - COS351D
Yelloa, Got a response from our lecturers here: Quote Good day, Please read response from Prof Etienne van der Poel, also in charge of this module: "I've checked the October paper. I don’t see a need for a calculator in the Oct paper". Regards, Dr S Belabbesby Kyle - COS351D
Thanks for that link Karin - I checked all of those arbitrary questions from the MCQ I wasn't sure on and got all of my "educated guesses" right. Woop woop @Scag - For the DD's, I just followed their conventions - Didn't mind the structure at all, just let the dependency line wrap around the page. Yea, I thought that ERD was from an assignment. I suppose it doesn't make a difference, you still need to apply the rules to get there. The DD was quite simple, but I'm sure there's "bonus marks" incorporated in there somewhere.by Kyle - INF303D
Hey all, So, what'd you think? I thought it was quite a fair paper, couple of tough questions, some well directed theory questions - so I have no complaints. I think the only thing I went "huh?" for, were the beginning questions in the MC - but that was probably from chapters 1 and 2 which I admit I didn't brush up on. Even time was great for me, I managed to draw allby Kyle - INF303D

Hey all, I am quite concerned in regards to the "No Calculator" rule in the exam coming up. Looking at the past paper, the table given at the end gives absolutely no indication of the entropy, or the other log functions for that matter, only the information gain. Do we just need to work out the logs in our heads? Anyone got an idea? Cheers, Kyleby Kyle - COS351D
I remembered the emotional model perfectly I based my answers on that with a little guesswork on the names of the items, but I reckon I'll get a few marks there. The rest of the paper was quite smooth sailing after that, apart from not remembering a few points in the heuristic evaluation (like the process, and the web heuristics - which are basically the same as the others). I have to agree with Cev and Marthinus. That paper was magical compared with the others written so far. I think my notes were 50-odd pages and served me well.by Kyle - INF320E
For 5.2 these are in chapter 10: Functional requirements Data Requirements Environmental Requirements User Requirements Usability and User Experience goals I reckon for that last question it's 2 marks per point as well. The way I see it, it's mainly broken down into 4 main stages (last three involving the ACM Code of ethics): Communicating purposes/Reassuring Upholding Pby Kyle - INF320E
Hey all, Here are some mnemonics I came up with to help me remember main points and lists. You can mail through to Dr. Elmarie Kritzinger as she is the lecturer for the module on kritze@unisa.ac.za I think we'll all get the mail about the Agenda, which is fine, I'm just happy there was a response.by Kyle - INF308J
@Marthinus - No bubble burst I took that point from what was said here. I actually think I got that one (same reason, from the assignment - and I remembered the value to boot). I think the worst thing here, is trying to add marks up until 50%. Although a pass is what is needed, it shouldn't be what we all scratch together to try and get. I'm sure you could. Try add a dash of personal input though.by Kyle - INF308J
@Jo - Of course you have the time. That letter took me 20mins to draft. All you have to do is point out what you found to be bogus, hell, use my points if you like. Also, it's not snotty, I'd be swearing at them if that was the caseby Kyle - INF308J
Here is a letter I have sent to the lecturers about the examination. Do your part guys and girls. If we all keep quiet, we all get what they give us. I mailed through to kritze@unisa.ac.za as the osprey email address no longer works. QuoteDear Lecturers, I am writing to show my discern for the exam written foby Kyle - INF308J

Total Duration is easy - it's the total length of the critical path. However you get these figures after completing the forward pass.
