I received the following email: We are a training facility in Cape Town and are desperately looking for someone who can lecture the attached course. Could you kindly advise if you know of someone or perhaps yourself that could do lecturing for 3 weeks? I have attached the course content. Thank you for you time. I got 66. Pretty good considering the paper's questionable content. Finally it's over. I'm done now.by malberts - INF320E
I got a 60. Considering the amount i studied during the year, the effort in revising and the hectic week in which i wrote i'd say that's fine. But a pass is a pass.by malberts - COS351D
I got 68. Considering I looked at the work for the first time just before the exam I guess I did pretty good.by malberts - INF303D
Woohoo, I got 86. Third highest mark for me so far.by malberts - COS301Y
I got 69%. Year Mark 82.00 % Exam Mark 64.29 % By my calculations I must have had nearly everything I filled in correct because I left out the line clipping, the pipeline stages and a few other things. I'm just damned glad I passed.by malberts - COS340A
Wiseguy Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > @amy 40/80 for the q paper That won't be enough. (40/80) * 90% = 45%. That means she'll need at least 50% (i.e. 5/10) for her total assignment mark to pass. And since the first assignment didn't count that much it won't be enough.by malberts - INF320E
Regarding a complaint, if they see the average is very low they might raise it. However I believe they're going to retort with "Please refer to your Study Guide 501 (...) for the parts of the prescribed book that must be studied for examination purposes." that appears in TL102, despite what appears on the bottom of that page.by malberts - INF320E
You'll need at least 45/80 [1] to pass if you got 0 for the year mark. I also only did the first one because I fell behind with most of my subjects and couldn't submit any assignments (except for the 1st and 2nd for some) on time. I think I had 2/10 for my year mark so I would actually only need 43/80 [2] to pass. [1] 45/80 = 56.25%, but it's only 90% of total mark, so 56.2by malberts - INF320E
What a mess. This module needs some serious restructuring. TL501 is useless, mostly just a direct copy and paste from the textbook with some extra links. TL102 was utterly useless. The marks breakdown was wrong, the topics were wrong. I propose that this module goes through a little "practice what you preach" evaluation session. Lets get some experts to evaluate the tutorial letters.by malberts - INF320E
OK that's it. I'm done. I'd rather sleep and let the seeds in my head germinate. All I can hope is that UNISA does true to their trend in lowering academic standard. I have to restrain myself to not let loose a major rant against this module. Bleh.by malberts - INF320E
I'm going to bash my skull in with the huge book. I think that's the only way the information will get into my head and maybe stay there. I'm going to forget everything at 10 tomorrow. If I need to apply HCI principles I'll look them up. Stupid moduleby malberts - INF320E
I have that same problem, maybe if I made these notes earlier in the year they would have been better. My brain is dead after all these exams and now I'm supposed to memorise a huge book. And the marks are so few - forget one part and you're screwed. I fear that if they ask "recall 500 items from list X and explain each one" that I'm going to die. OK here's one using a slightly different font in case you still have problems: http://www.filefactory.com/file/a1df8e0/n/summary_pdf_zipby malberts - INF320E
I've been speeding through the book since Wednesday extracting bits to create a summary (38 pages). I'm only going to go through this summary until the exam, of course there might be errors in here but I'm not going to change it further. Maybe some of you will find this useful. I haven't uploaded to wikistudent. I doubt they'll upload it today, so here's the link:by malberts - INF320E
Yes, Ian, you are correct. ADDER won't do. I looked at the question too hastily. Wouldn't this be the shortest? START --(a,a,R)--> INSERT a ----> START START --(/\,/\,R)--> HALT Regarding the encoding, unary means that the number must be encoded using one character only. The input string doesn't have to be one character, although in this question that actually is tby malberts - COS301Y
Here's another definition of computable (from wikistudent) that might be acceptable: "According to Richard P. Feynman’s Lectures on Computation, if we start with a variable x, and take a function of that variable, F(x), then F(x) is computable if we can find a Turing machine T which, if fed a tape on which x is written, will eventually halt with F(x) printed on the tape." I'd make the regular language something like (aa)* and write out MATHISON, L = {blah blah blah} rather than just giving the name.by malberts - COS301Y
Wait. I forgot to check during the reverse part that the word is of odd length... that means it's even longer... Never mind that. The oddness is checked before entering the top section. I don't think it's that difficult, it's rather a matter of looking at the question in a different way. The default response would be to try and test everything at the same time and the saby malberts - COS301Y

You need to read an /\ after reading the last a (in addition to popping an /\). Otherwise your PDA accepts (ac)n(bc)na(a+b)*.by malberts - COS301Y
Yes, any non-programmable calculator. Just memorise the matrices for rotation, translation, scale and shear. I don't think they'll ask anything harder than that because of the time constraints. On a side note. Why does TL103 state that the paper will count 70 marks? Shouldn't it be 75 since the year mark is 25? In any case, the 5% is still at most 4 marks. So they'll most lby malberts - COS340A
I think you need to get a minimum of 50% for the exam but I'm not sure where it's mentioned. This is a separate requirement in addition to the minimum year mark needed to pass.by malberts - COS340A
See page 186 (4th edition) of the textbook (section 4.5.2). I haven't even started with the work for that assignment so I don't know for sure if that is the problem.by malberts - COS340A
