Any one else battling with the lighting in assignment 3?

Give the rest of us some time to get over the struggle of assignment 2.
I have some other assignments to finish first before I can tackle this one.
But, yes, I've done this subject last year as well, and the lighting was also difficult to figure out then.

I found these tutorial apps helpful

http://www.xmission.com/~nate/tutors.html

I recall years and years ago when I started 3D modeling with Autodesk 3D Studio... You had to put at least 1 light source down to see anything once rendered. Recall it supported spot light (i.e. directional) and omni lights. The spots could be shaped (square, round), color, intensity, falloff, etc. Material had to be shiny to "reflect" (i.e. lighting highlights). For me this is just the programmatic (openGL) of what you can do with these 3D apps as well as the science behind it.

I'll start this assignment late July - I only work under pressure...

I am having difficulty with the lighting on the barn roof, everything else lights up fine, except that roof, any ideas?

Are you sure you defined the faces to be outward facing?

What do you mean by outward facing?

See page 186 (4th edition) of the textbook (section 4.5.2). I haven't even started with the work for that assignment so I don't know for sure if that is the problem.

@comp - I believe malberts is referring to the normals

see

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_normal

However, I would think that if the normals are reversed you end up with a transparent piece... rather than one not accepting lighting effects...

[edit]

Also have a look at the follwing link regarding normals and lighting

http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-234/opengl-normals/

I read that page referring to the right hand rule, I gave that a try and it does not work still, Justin I will try the normal though I find it hard to believe that is the problem since there is only one normal.
Thanks for the help, I will post if it works out or not.

You are not going to believe this. It was the color I chose (Pure black) hot smiley , This can be frustrating at times.

How is everyone doing with the texture mapping?

I got texture mapping to sort of work though all my images are coming out green? does anyone have any suggestions?

Well not only are they green, but I cannot change the texture for each building, it kind of takes a random image and applies it to all the structures. Any ideas? Am I the only one struggling with the texture?
