You will need to make the change to URL.txt. He says he uses a program to help mark the assignment so I think if you make it a different name then the program might not see you submission and you will fail.

I also did not use radio buttons on this page. Instead I had a list of all the positions and nest to them a drop-down list of all the players that play that position. If there is already a team selection for that fixture then it shows those team members selected in the drop-downs.
I don't think how we solve it is as important as actually solving the problem. I agree with fighter-dude in t

There is a new one on the site under additional resources. In this one it says:
STEP 2:
• Using Notepad, open a new text file.
• In this text file, type the full URL of your site, and name this file URL.txt.
• Copy this file, together with all your portfolio code (and any subfolders you may have)into the
root of the folder you created above.
So only add your URL to the file called URL

Your first query will never be run.
$query is a variable that you assign a value to. First you assigned the value :
Language: PHP$query = "UPDATE playerinfo SET name = ';$name';, surname = ';$surname';, contactnumber = ';$contactnumber';, etc...';";
and then you write this over that value:
Language: PHP$query = "SELECT * FROM playerinfo WHERE player_id = ';$player_id';"

I need to add though that in "real life" the specifications changes a lot while you are busy with the project. At least this one is constant.

This is good news
I have more than one class, what I did was use a .htaccess file to route all my requests to index.php. From there I store the url and send it to a "boostrap" that loads everything needed like config file and base classes' files. After that it looks at what was requested and loads those files, creates an instance of that class and then if there was an action sp

Hello,
After the assignment 1 results I have decided to not use my framework and will be doing the easy and low risk one.
Too afraid of going outside requirements and loosing marks. Last thing I want is to redo a module.

I got it
needed to remove the { } from the function and add them to the controller like this:
Language: PHP$controller->${$action}(); //wrong!!
${$controller}->$action(); //works
guess I should have asked earlier. haha

Hi
How do I call a class method when the name will only be clear at runtime? I am sending all requests to index.php and parsing the url from there. the url would be formatted like this:
http://www.mysite.com/controller/method/queryString
I get it to load the controller but don't know how to load the method in that loaded cotroller. I tried this:
Language: PHP//the controller loads, I p

Hi,
Yes it is, spent quite a bit of time on it. The routing and getting everything loaded was the hardest part so far. I don't know how to handle the views yet and might just be able to make something small for it. I might also not have time to add a database abstraction layer so the queries will be in the models.
Going good so far, I'm very excited!!

You are missing a semicolon after your assignment of $name.

I am attempting and writing my own mini PHP MVC framework and want to know if using this for the project would be an issue as the file locations and names would be a bit different. It will by no means be as good as the mainstream frameworks but it is proving quite challenging, fun and informative to write. I have learned a lot so far.
If I just did the project as it is there with those few fil

First of all, don't post so much code on the site. I bet lots of people just copied it! When you do post code, use the code tags as instructed in the Tut101.
Please add quotes to your code to show what you want each section to do. It will make it easier for me and probably the lecturer to see if the code does what you think it would.
Like I have to guess this is where you are trying to

The students stealing and being dishonest about where they get their code should think about what they are doing. You make life harder for the rest of us actually trying to learn something. We work hard to get the marks we get.
If you don't like programming or learning to write programs then why take the course in the first place? Why do the effort? Programming in the real life is much ha

Are we allowed to use jQuery? I would like to use it for ajax and for manipulating the HTML in real-time without having to reload the page so many times.
a sample of the kind of thing I would like to do there looks like this. This is part of the system I'm writing at work, this code is copyrighted so no copying it from me!
Language: Javascript <script type="text/javascript"

Ok, so the coding part of this project isn't going to be that hard but I have no clue on the sport side of this. I don't follow any sport, I don't even own a TV so this is proving quite a challenge for a computer geek like myself. I would like some tips. I will be going on the internet but feel free to point me in a proper direction.
I thought of rally but it doesn't seem t

You could also build the entire page inside one variable and then echo that variable at the end. To get the markup to look nice in the browser's "view page source", you could add a "Enter/new line" inside the quotes and it will place the markup the same way. use the concatenation operator to build the string like this:
Language: PHP$title = "My Site";
$myVar

Hi
Try using some javasctipt. Add an onclick event on the delete link that opens a confirm box asking the user if they are sure they want to complete the action. This could prevent the delete script from being run in the first place.

You can give the file execution rights by going to the file manager section, select the file you want to edit and select Chmod. In Chmod you'll be able to add the execution rights.

Try adding just this file with the code to you web-root and see if the php executes.
file name: index.php
Language: PHP<?php
phpinfo();
?>
If this doesn't work you need to get another host or open a ticket and ask them to see why your php is not being executed. If it does echo it means the problem lies in you code and we'll have to dig a bit deeper.

Check that your code is between the php tags:
Language: PHP <?php
//your code here
?>
Is the file saved as a .php file, like index.php? The code won't work in a .html or a .txt. You can add html to php files:
Language: PHP<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>Some page</title>
</head>
<body>
<?php
//you can add the code like this

I can do PHP programming already, I have been using it a lot over the last 2 years to automate most of the systems in the company I work for. I used the excel spreadsheets they passed around as a reference and created a single system from them. I think I know more than the basics we will be learning here so want to make this module challenging for myself.
I have looked at quite a lot of framew

Hi
I agree about the VB not being the best choice. I actually hoped GUI programming would be a bit more advance, or at least use C#. The other languages I have no problems with, PHP is a nice choice for internet programming because it isn't that hard but can still be challenging. I also agree that doing C++ up to the third year would have been a good thing.
Java in the BTech year is a
