What came to mind about that IT governance question for me, was the 3 layers of management (programme, portfolio and project), where one is for strategy, the other is for middle managers, and project management is for lower managers. I am certain that is what it was about, but I didnt nearly write enough for 20 marks. I learnt all the calculations and diagrams too, for no reason. I also was sby SCag - INF4825
How did you find it? It wasnt what I expected. I was sure we would get diagrams to draw and calculations to work out. I was bitterly disappointed that it wasnt so. I mostly only went over the past exams, so everything else I had to rely on long term memory...by SCag - INF4825
The one on page 197 doesnt show dependencies, just when project activities have been planned to begin. Page 184 shows the Gantt chart with dependencies. I think the chart as on page 197 is for when you represent activity diagrams with the associated resource histogram, and the one on page 184 is more for when you are wanting to track workflow(Eg. How much time has been spent on each activity).by SCag - INF4825
Quoteexcept that question 8, which I had already convinced myself that if its in the exam, its 8 marks I am willing to lose But it was so easy :< If you went over the material you would have seen FSMs often, all you had to know was that you draw a circle for the state, with its name inside. Then an arrow to the next state with a label showing the event and action that occurs to move to the nexby SCag - COS430B
I was surprised that COS430 was dropped, networking is important and is directly applicable in work environment. Most of the other subjects are not really. Ontology engineering would probably be a good fit for security. Other than that, anything that has programming. But if you are wanting to get in to security, you should look at doing industry certifications. I am currently learning for ECby SCag - INF4831
There were STACKS of tricks hidden in the paper. Two others were: Q50 in the multiple choice. At a glance, they all look correct. But if you read A closely, it says "This protocol requires a physical connection", physical is meant to be logical. The SCTP data chunk question asked you to write down which was the last data chunk. But there wasnt a last data chunk (BE 01). As for subjecby SCag - COS430B
Quotefrom a TCP/IP suite perspective While this is the reason for the security section in COS430, for the most part, most of it is straight up security, not necessarily anything to do with networking. The sections in INF431 mentioned briefly what some things were, and the basics of how they work (if even that). The equivalent sections in COS430 covered in detail how they work. I chose B (both b and c) for question 24, because I confirmed both of those word for word in the textbook while preparing for the exam. The picture I also knew to be correct, but decided against A only because two thirds of B were correct, and also I thought maybe one word or rwnd or something like that has been changed from the book, making it wrong. I answered the same as you for question 48by SCag - COS430B
I am also passionate about security. Started my security blog a few months back. Which is how a spotted relevant omissions. The INF subject would be stuff that a security professional would need to know, such as intrusion detection. Removing the programming security stuff will leave enough room to go in to those sections in greater detail(although they too need to know how viruses work, eg. in peby SCag - INF4831
So, I got annoyed about having to spend my reading time filling in the front cover and attendance sheet. Anycow, while paging to the back to get to the attendance, I glossed over the written questions. And a smile came. The exam was identical to the past paper, errors and all. I made myself a worked solution for the past paper yesterday, so I knew what to do for every question ^_^ A lot ofby SCag - COS430B
There is potential for some insane questions to come up, but I dont think they will. I think if you know the basics for the main concepts, you should be ok. The MPC questions in the past paper some some mean questions though. Also, some calculations require the use of calculators (mainly in the security section), so they wont ask that. The security section was more detailed than INF431 (informatiby SCag - COS430B
@Hack--it: Your assignment 1 solutions were indeed, up to scratch. You did a good job there. However, I disagree about the textbook. I found there to be a few omissions from the textbook that really should be in a post grad text book. It was too broad in scope. In truth, I think they should actually split this subject into two. A COS version, and an INF version. The COS version will be all abby SCag - INF4831
Last years COS430 doesnt look too difficult, although I havent gone over the multiple choice questions. But a good portion of the written questions arent so bad. What I do disagree with though, is asking questions which require you to learn codes. Learning a code is almost pointless. In practice, references will be used anyway.by SCag - INF4825
I will begin studying when I get back from my exam tomorrow. I have gone through the work once, highlighting the important things, but from tomorrow I will use the past exams and assignments to determine the most important sections to cover.by SCag - COS430B
I have never seen a Unisa exam stating in the rules that a pencil should not be used. The generic book says nothing, and I have never seen it on the first page of any exam either.by SCag - INF425N
The underpinnings of a trusted operating system was a bit of a cheap shot. It was wanting the information on pg 243. The vulnerabilities in programming was also in a "READ ONLY" section. I felt we got screwed in every angle on this subject. 1. Poor communication from the lecturer regarding exam material (he said learn everything. This is post exam, but my money was on kerberos (pretty much the only question that was bound to come up). I was also sure we would get a transposition question. Other than that, I was worried in general. No two past papers were the same, meaning the questions were likely to come from anywhere, and you could not focus on anything at all. I was also a bit bleak that there were no lecturer sby SCag - INF431L
I emailed the lecturer and she said that she did not see the paper after it went to the printers, but that no one will be disadvantaged for any errors. The question was: "Consider the following query:" My answer went something like this: I have spent some time trying to consider the query for this 8 mark question, but it seems I have fallen short of an answer and must attempt an alby SCag - INF418P
So an all round easy exam. I find that the questions in the assignments do not prepare someone for the exam(I am talking about the SQL scripting here). For example, the assignments would lead someone to believe that they are required to know the absolute basics, but the past exams (and this last exam) have shown that you need to know a great deal more (triggers, procedures accepting values forby SCag - INF418P
From what I have been able to gauge, there will be no questions about listing/explaining steps of a particular methodology(in my interpretation, that is application. Along with drawing UML type diagrams, which isnt really in the scope of this course). The questions will be more comparative, I presume the questions to be like those in the assignments. In particular, I reckon a comparison between Rby SCag - INF450P
