I have read and understood this section.
I love that there are so many ways to manipulate strings in PHP and so many predefined string functions to use.

I have read and understood this section.
I have to say it really bugged me the amount of code needed back in Section 4: Working with HTML forms, where data was kept from checkboxes selected by users. Think its the very last section of Section 4: PHP and Checkboxes.
Anyway, so I went back and re-wrote the code, in a way I understood it using everything I have learnt so far (arrays, loops, et

@Dr Mac,
What I was trying to see (from my question above) is what the resultant behavior would be if you use value operands (such as < and > on variables that are not numbers (strings). I'm just messing around with PHP really
Anyway, what I did discover that PHP actually does an automatic conversion of a string to a number (if it can) without you having to first use a function.

I have finally completed this section 4: Working with HTML Forms.
I must say it can get quite code intensive when it comes to radio buttons and check-boxes when you want to display the result to the user.
I particular found printing into text-boxes much easier than i initially thought.
On to the next section.

I have completed Section 3: Conditional Logic and have understood it fully.
Interestingly, for the < (less than) and > (greater than) operators where the variables are not
values, but strings/characters/words, PHP will evaluate those logical operators in an if/else statement by counting
the number of characters in each variable and making a descision based on it.

I have read and understood section 2: Getting Started With Variables and have done all the exercises.
However, an interesting note for (coming from a c++ background) is that variables in PHP seems to be a one-type fits all variables. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm so use to having to declare what type of variable something is such as a int variable or a char variable, where yo

Hi,
Has anyone bought the subscribed textbook yet: Beginning PHP5, Apache and MySQL Web development yet?
It cost about R460 on intersoft excluding delivery charges (typical delivery time between 1-2 working days). They also have an option to pick it up yourself at their offices in Joburg.
I'm a bit hesitant on buying it through Amazon as last time i bought anything there, it took almo

Hi 78183294,
I've only received my study materials yesterday and according to it, we are using the tutorial material that can be viewed at http://www.homeandlearn.co.uk/php/php.html
The ones on the CD that you will get might be more up to date but so far it looks exactly the same to me.
So you can start on that website until you get your material.

Hi,
I'm glad we are using the tutorial material from Home and Learn as I discovered their website some time ago (http://www.homeandlearn.co.uk) and I must say their material are excellently written for the total beginner. And not just for PHP but other courses as well (C#, Java etc). And all for free!
They also offer certificates, but those are just for pat-on-your-back use and not som

Not sure if this question fits in this thread, but the heading says "Standard Layout"
Does it matter if you designed the layout of your website with either Absolute or Relative Positioning?

On this point, i would just like to add that if you wanted to create linked java-script pages (instead of embedding) the text book don't actually show an example of how to do this. I know its easy to just google it but still, could such an example possibly be added to the text book?

I think the site has some really cool graphics (for a graphic design course I'd give it an A+) but personally, its really difficult to navigate. And loading it takes forever. I'm not really sure what the purpose is of the website. Are they selling guitars on-line? Are they offering on-line guitar tutorials? Who knows? After a max 2 minutes I left the site. It does however look really p

Hi All,
My name is Shireen and I am an electrical engineer.
I have always had an interest in web designing but just never had the time to actually learn more about it. I hope that at the end of this course I will be an expert Web designer or at least be close to it
Good luck to everyone!
Best Regards
Shireen
