yeah, I ended up using sessions for this as well, did some research and this seems to be the standard way to do it. Its called "sticky forms"
I also used sessions to send the error messages back to the form page. You can do the verification and database entry on the form page itself, which would eliminate the need to send the errors via session, but I started out with all my database

just noticed some things in your code:
Language: PHPmysql_select_db("registration", $con);
//Select the database we want to use
mysql_select_db("registration") or die("Could not find database");
Why are you selecting the database twice?
Language: PHP$cname=cname;
This doesnt look right. I think it should be something like $cna

ok thanks Mac,
I'm having some issues using the date in that format though.
To make any use of the date in my application I need to split it into year, month and day, for it to make any sense. It wasn't a problem with the data in mysql date format, since I could split it using the "-" as a seperator like this:
list($year, $month, $day) = split("-", $dob);

I have a few questions:
When you test our project are you gonna use a database that is already populated with values. The reason I ask is the format that certain values have in the database could mean that the input that we test for and enter into the database via our site could result in problems. For example your format for sex is char(2). If on my site I enter values "ma" for male

5A-1
Done. Had no problems with this one since I now understand how $_POST works.
5B-1
Completed without too much hassle. I did however have to add the line of code mentioned in last years forum posts in order for it to work 100%.
5C-1
Completed without any hassles

Completed. It took me a while to work some kinks out using $_POST and also for some reason I was having trouble importing the array. Eventually got it sorted out and it works fine on PHP5.

Maybe this is easier for people to understand
Language: PHP<?php
CheckTopic($_POST[';tasknumber';], $exists);
if ($exists) {
echo "Topic already exists, please make you post there";
}
else {
CreateNewTopic($_POST[';tasknumber';]);
}
?>
Sorry i was bored...

what is your error msg, and have u set up your php.ini file with the proper smtp settings?
Also I did the Internet and web design course and you dont need to use any php in that course. I think you biting off more than you can chew. You just need to stick to using things that the course deals with instead of making things hard for yourself.
If you really want to use PHP, google for tutorial

I'm pretty keen in persuing a career in PHP. So I was just wondering if anyone knows what the job market for PHP/Web programmers is like at the moment. What kind of starting salaries could I expect.
Also would this course be enough to get you a job in this line. I'm pretty keen to continue my web programming studies after this course so can anyone recommend a good UNISA course to fur

Also completed. Spent ages on this. For some reason you always assume it something comon like not importing the variables correctly. Ended trying different ways of importing them, only to find out it was a small spelling mistake holding me back

Task 2A - 15 years ago
Completed this task.
You have to adapt the code to work with PHP5 by using the $_GET function. This is because global variables have been turned off in PHP5, whereas the handbook is based on PHP4 which has global variables turned on.

I do have the manual, and I thought it had to do with the fact that PHP5 doesn't allow global variables on the same level as PHP4, I actually tried switching XAMPP over to PHP4 using php-switch, but it was coming up with the same problem. Just checked XAMPP though and for some reason it says it is still using version 5 though.
I've managed to complete the hit counter successfully.

Hi,
I'm having a bit of a problem with the guestbook exercise in the masterskill manual (3-1 pg36)
I've typed out the code (just made a few of my own changes to the table layout) and all seems to be working fine, except for writing to the guest.txt file.
The code used to write to the guestfile is:
fwrite($fp, "<br><b>$firstname $lastname:</b> $comments<

Hi There,
Just wandering if anyone has any good free web hosting options that I could use to host my assignement 3 on.
Only problem is that if my email contact form is going to work properly I will need php to be available. I've tried some international free options, but haven't found one that works well yet.

one of the site requirements is
Use a Centered Heading, Times Roman 16, Bold.
Does this mean we need to use <h> tags and set the font to Times Roman, with font size 16, or is the font called "Times Roman 16"?
Also closest font match I have installed on my PC is Times New Roman, is this the one they mean?

Problems with the site
Calls itself the internet's worst website. Firstly the colour scheme is terrible. It makes use of frames and the animated background is a bad idea. There is no indication of where the user is on the site and no straight forward navigation.
Impact on Users

The cost of domain registrations vary by domain type. For instance .com domains will usually be more expensive than .co.za domains.
A typical .com domain costs in the region of R150 per year while a .co.za domain is normally about R100 per year.
The money paid for domain registration is distributed amonst the sellers, resellers and ICANN.
