I'm not a 100% sure how to interpret this question

Do we have to delete duplicates from the resultant list or just warn the user that there are duplicates and therefore not create the list?

You have to create a resultant list containing only the unique entries from the first two. No duplicates should be found in the final answer, even if elements are contained in both the input lists.
