The position will be responsible for running and improving an existing data warehouse in the Directorate (Academic Transformation (Projects)). This position is not be located in ICT but will liaise with them. The person will need to be able to design and maintain the extracts from an Oracle database and migrate these to a SQL Server environment as a central warehouse. There, design, create, maintain a data warehouse for reporting purposes, document processes and procedures, ensure quality standards are met or design new ones. Will also need to be involved in the migrations of the all databases (SQL) to new hardware environments and to ensure the continuity of the migrations. Bring innovative design ideas to the table to improve performance and scalability of the warehouse. Assist with various automation processes and provisioning of data for analysis and reporting. The appointee will be working with Glen Barnes (Information and Analysis directorate), managing and updating the current data warehouse in the directorate.

Requirements:
• An appropriate NQF level 7 or equivalent qualification in a quantitative, analytic or IT discipline.
• A minimum of five years’ experience in information analysis, business intelligence or analytic system development at a higher education institution and/or experience in providing information for high-level decision making at a medium to large organisation.
• Sound project management experience in an analytical environment;
• Experience in systems development, preferably web-based;
• Experience in the use of data management and business intelligence tools;
• Experience in the extraction, manipulation and enrichment of data;
• Experience in the design and implementation of data repositories and analytic systems;
• Good communication skills and ability to articulate clearly in written and oral English.
• Good analytical skills.
• Good organisational, management and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to take initiative, execute sound judgement and solve problems.
• Ability to work accurately, independently and in a team, under pressure and to meet deadlines.
• Willingness to work beyond the normal call of duty.

Recommendations:
• Knowledge of university structures and processes.
• Knowledge of the following software and computer environments will be an advantage :
o Relational databases like SQLServer 2008/ 2012/ 2014, Oracle 11g etc.
o SSIS, SSAS and SSRS
o BI tools like Webfocus, Cognos, Qlikview
o Higher Education Management Information System (HEMIS);
o Higher Education Data Analyzer (HEDA)
