This question had me pull my hair for longer than i expected.

Both switching methods will forward packets by inspecting the frame headers for a DMAC.
Except that the store-and-forward mode will store the entire packet before sending it. Obviously this will cause congestion should the network experience collisions. So cut-through mode should be relatively faster since there is no storing of packets nor error checking involved. I just cant see the right answer for this one. What am i missing guys?

Jgrand

Store -and-Forward Mode - switch reads entire data (b -wrong states frames header)
Cut through - reads frame header (a - wrong states entire data)

and I see no a and b answer only!! Must be a mistake because answer c & d are straight from the book.

They asking for which statement is incorrenct. ABD are true so C is the answer.

A - Page 278 paragraph 4 - True
B - Page 263 last paragraph - True
C - Page 263 last paragraph - False (Because switches in Cut-Through mode forwards errors, it may contribute to network congestion. Unlike Store-and-Forward switches.)
D- Page 281 paragraph 3 - True

Thanks.

aaah thanks for pointing that out Skills. INCORRECT is the keyword. i must have had a long night working on the assignment.
So cut-through mode switches do contribute to network congestions when there are collisions.

Thanks guys.
