Hi don't understand the solution to question 2 in assignment 2.

* why does the determinant increasing from repeated multiplication mean that the matrix becomes less of a rotation matrix?
* and why does it mean the point will move further and further from the origin?
* and why is the suggested replacement matrix an acceptable replacement?
* and finally why should we have known to test the determinant?

sorry for all the questions, but this one really baffled me.
