Chapter 2 Question 7ii
January 26, 2010 08:30PM
Looking at the answer in the study guide, I don't see how reverse(y1 y2...yn y1 y2...yn y1 y2...yn ) would equal
ynyn-1...y1 yn ... y1 yn ... y1

I understand that reverse(y1 y2...yn) equals ynyn-1...y1 but then shouldn't the entire reverse statement equal ynyn-1...y1 ynyn-1...y1 ynyn-1...y1 ?

Your reverse is the same as the reverse that is given in the guide.

Thanks for replying.

The guide has ... yn ... y1 ...

and mine has

... ynyn-1...y1 ...

can you leave out yn-1 and it means the same thing?

Yours is clearer, but it all depends on your "audience" doesn't it? When you use ellipsis you're assuming the reader has some knowledge it would be tedious to set out in detail. Ellipsis notation is playing fast and loose with the objects.
