Looking at the answer in the study guide, I don't see how reverse(y₁ y₂...y_n y₁ y₂...y_n y₁ y₂...y_n ) would equal
y_ny_n-1...y₁ y_n ... y₁ y_n ... y₁

I understand that reverse(y₁ y₂...y_n) equals y_ny_n-1...y₁ but then shouldn't the entire reverse statement equal y_ny_n-1...y₁ y_ny_n-1...y₁ y_ny_n-1...y₁ ?

Your reverse is the same as the reverse that is given in the guide.

Thanks for replying.

The guide has ... y_n ... y₁ ...

and mine has

... y_ny_n-1...y₁ ...

can you leave out y_n-1 and it means the same thing?

Yours is clearer, but it all depends on your "audience" doesn't it? When you use ellipsis you're assuming the reader has some knowledge it would be tedious to set out in detail. Ellipsis notation is playing fast and loose with the objects.
