Change in the availability of academic software from Adobe

CRL Computers has informed us that Adobe have switched to a single supplier of academic software for South Africa. As a result CRL will not be able to supply Dreamweaver academic licenses after 1 August 2008. They will still supply the Microsoft academic software as well as the Dreamweaver and Expression Web textbooks.

This leaves you with the following options:

(1) The course is designed around the use of trial version software. This means you can use the trial version of Dreamweaver CS3 on your CD for 30 days - you install it on the 1st of October, complete the chapters in the prescribed book (Adobe Classroom in a book) within two weeks, then complete your final Web project within another two weeks. Alternatively if you use the previous version 8 of Dreamweaver you install it on the 15th of September, and complete the lessons in the prescribed book (Training from the source) within four weeks. On the 15th of October you install the update for Dreamweaver 8 (also on your CD) which extends the trial for another 30 days. You then complete your Web project by the 15th of November.

(2) You use the Microsoft software. If you order it through CRL make sure that you know which version of Expression Web you are getting: version 1 or version 2. You must buy the book that corresponds to the version - see assignment3.pdf on your CD for more details about the Expression Web software. The advantage is that the Microsoft software and books are considerably cheaper than the Adobe software and books.

(3) You buy the full version Dreamweaver software from places such as Incredible Connection.

CRL has offered their apologies for this change in the availability of the Adobe software but has said that Adobe gave them no advance warning of this change in supplier.

We are investigating if this new single supplier of Adobe software can also supply the Unisa Internet and Web design students - unfortunately they will not offer a "one-stop" solution such as CRL offered who supplied software and books from both Microsoft and Adobe.

Please check the discussion forum for contact details for the new supplier should one be found.

Good news:
Please contact Simon du Toit at Licence to Learn 021 424 5260 to order the Dreamweaver software.
Their price is: R 2,395. The price incl VAT, and there is a R100 delivery fee charged for courier door to door delivery. The products that we offer are what Adobe call a student "box" product. Which means that they come with all the cd's and manuals for the programs, as
Well as a basic, "how to" DVD outlining some of the features. Please note that these are OS specific, Mac or Windows - so you must indicate which version you want.
