Here are my findings for Domain name registrations:

www.africaregistry.com

www.ehost.co.za

On the first URL mentioned, the cost of a domain name vary according to the scope that the site will be covering. For example, a .com domain will cost $19 per year, while a specific domain that would cover Taiwan for example would cost $80 (.tw)

The URL http://www.webnow.co.za/domains/?gclid=CLvxzt3yw5QCFR44Zwodln2AEg offers a free za.net domain, so yes there is a scope for free domain name registration (WEBNOW DOMAINS)
