if you're running Windows get mIRC. If Linux/BSD get irssi(cli), xchat or konversation should be installed if you run Gnome or KDE.

Get Trillian. Can connect to MSN, AIM and irc with the one client.

Firefox has a IRC Plugin called ChatZilla which works well and is very light on resources

/server irc.freenode.net
/join #unisa_COS3xx

or if you have ChatZilla:
irc://irc.freenode.net/unisa_cos3xx

ilan, if you can't view the channel, do a:
/msg nobbie hallo
or
/msg rand_acs hallo
