Assignmnent 1 credits
May 12, 2007 11:31AM
Hello all.

Just wanted to find out about the assignment 1 credits. The assignment is worth 65 credits, I got 92% but only 46 credits. If someone understands how the credits works can you please explain it because it just does not make any sense. 92% of 65 is at least 58. Unless some questions are weighted higher than others.

Any help in clarifying this would be appreciated.

Same here, also got 92% (and to be honest somewhat surprised that I got some of them wrong!) and 46 credits.

I suspect that the lecturers or the admin staff may have made a slight error in calculating the credits, basing the maximum number of credits on 50, not the 65 as per our tutorial letter.

This could affect some students who are close to but just below the 100 credits needed to write the exam at the end of the year, where they submitted this assignment and were shy a few credits because of this apparent faux par.

Perhaps the lecturers could look into this and respond?

Best wishes,

Richard

I didn't pick this up at first. I got 91% and 45 credits and I'm also quite eager to see where I may have gone wrong - perhaps the Big O questions.

Thanks guys, at least I know I am not the only one.

It would be nice if one of the lecturers could clear this up.

Hi

There is a problem regarding the calculation of the credits. We are looking into it.

Nope - not resolved as far as I can see - just logged in and still only the 46 credits showing...

Hi

Sorry guys but according to my senior lecturer we cannot sort out the problem with the credits. This issue will be taken into consideration when exam admission is being considered. We are also awarding students 15 bonus credits on assignment 2.

Please note that year marks are not affected in any way by this problem.

Hi, I hope you submitted assignment 4 as it was due on Sunday 15/07smile

I also did not get any bonus credits for assignment 2?

In fact I have noticed that we have not been awarded 15 bonus credit directly. The 15 bonus credit have been included in the maximum number of credits awarded for ass02. Instead of 50 the maximum credit was 65. However, I don not agree with the way it was done. The communication between lecturers and students was not clear. I do not agree because we cannot perform the same on all assignments.

The fact is that the assignment was worth 65 credits. How can they just decide to deduct 15 credits we are entitled to???

I also did not recieve any bonus credits for assignment 2

Hi guys,

same here. I scored 94% and received 47 credits for assignment 1. Obviously they assumed the maximum credits were 50, and not 65. There's no weighting, just a simple wrong assumption that the maximum credits were 50, and not 65. This was an admin mistake, and should be fixed.

I think saying that the problem can't be rectified is insufficient. I am registered for 8 modules and counted on these credits to spread my workload evenly.

Without them I won't have exam admission.

Unisa, aren't we entitled to a serious answer here, please?

Hi Please note that with regards to exam admission credits will no longer play a role. If you have sent in one assignment before 10 May you will definitely gain exam admission.
