Message from the Director.

Welcome to the home page of the School of Computing (SOC). At Unisa, Computing is seen as the umbrella term for all Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Information Systems (IS), Computer Science (CS) and other related areas. Over the years, Computing has proven to be an enabler to progress science, engineering and technology (SET) as well as business and industry. It is a very dynamic discipline that grows in depth and breadth and an exponential rate. Computing has the ability to allow for quantum leaps in economic growth as is evident in the progress made by countries such as India and China. It furthermore creates several employment opportunities as seen in the gap between demand and supply for Computing-related positions. The Department of Labour has classified ICT as a Scarce Skill further emphasising the need for qualified people in this field.

The School of Computing takes a holistic approach by focusing its activities on tuition, research, community engagement and academic citizenship. We strive to remain at the forefront of new developments and to ensure quality and professionalism is everything we do. We have a team of dedicated and passionate people working together to contribute to the development and growth of South Africa.

Here at the School of Computing you will find a wide variety of offerings to assist you in your career. We wish you all the best with your journey and hope that we can be part of it.
