The Institute shall consist of the following categories of membership:
- Student
- Affiliate
- Associate
- Member
- Fellow
- Library
Student Membership
A candidate for election as a Student Member shall be a registered student at an institution for tertiary education approved by the Council, and should have successfully completed at least one year of study for an IT-related degree or diploma.
Affiliate Membership
A candidate for election as an Affiliate either be
- in possession of a three year university or technikon qualification;
- or shall have had not less than five (5) years acceptable experience in the computer industry, applications of computers and/or training in the computer industry and/or information technology and/or fields approved by Council to be computer related activities.
Associate Membership
A candidate for election as an Associate Member:
- shall have acquired the education, training or experience approved by Council to be the equivalent of a three year qualification in IT related discipline; and
- shall have had not less than five (5) years acceptable experience in IT, disregarding temporary unemployment; and
- shall be engaged in the practice of IT at the time of his or her application.
Member
A candidate for election as member:
- shall have qualified for election as Associate Member in terms of 2.5 at least 2 years prior to his or her application for election as member;
- shall have occupied for at least three (3) years either a position of acceptable responsibility in IT, or have been engaged in work of a professional nature, disregarding temporary unemployment.
Fellow
A candidate for election as Fellow:
- shall have qualified for election as Member in terms of 2.6 at least five (5) years prior to his or her application for election as a Fellow and, unless Council decides to waive this requirement, he or she shall have been a Member for at least three years; and
- shall have occupied a position of superior responsibility in IT for a period of three (3) years, disregarding temporary unemployment; and
- shall have submitted to the Institute evidence of competence in the field of IT by at least one of the following:
- obtaining a doctoral degree in an IT-related discipline;
- obtaining a laureatus diploma in an IT-related discipline;
- submitting four (4) papers of a standard acceptable to Council, such papers to be published at the discretion of Council;
- have made contributions to international journals or symposia to the satisfaction of Council.
Library Membership
Libraries which qualify for this category endorse the mission and the objects of the institute. |
