PERSONAL PROFILE: PROF JUDY VAN BILJON

ABOUT Judy van Biljon
Judy van Biljon (also referenced as JA van Biljon) is a professor in the School of Computing at the University of South Africa. Her research interests include aspects of Human-Computer Interaction, modeling technology adoption in Information Systems and the use of technology in  Education. Currently the focus is on the design, implementation and monitoring of mobile technologies in ICT4D.

Judy van Biljon as been employed as mathematics teacher, programmer, manager of educational software program development,  lecturer,  researcher and postgraduate supervisor.

Research Interests

Currently her research activity is focused on three distinct areas which comprise:

(a) the usability and accessibility of mobile phones for diverse user groups,

(b) technology adoption and acceptance in developing countries, and

(c) mobile-centric information access for teaching and learning including the usability of Learning Management Systems, e-learning and m-learning.

These fields may seem diverse but they converge in the goal of  investigating the optimal use of technology for knowledge transfer to and between humans. In line with this goal the South African and wider African context as a developing region is the application area.
