Congrats Charles!
Hi Elizabeth, I know what you're going through, but I hope to upload today and get it out of the way!
With regards to list.php, all I can say is joins are your friends. Although covered in a few sources recommended by the course, have a look at this link, it REALLY helped me understand them better:

Hi. Regarding in data(info) of the students and Courses. Do we have to add our own students and courses ??? Or the database you will be opening it on will have all the info loaded on?
As far as I understand it I think they have an existing db that will load into your portfolio, and that is why it so important that we keep the structure of the database exactly the same as outlined

Thanks everyone, it's a great relief to have some clarity.
CharlesU when we start on the specific pages I agree having a separate topic for each will be very helpful to organise the information and thought processes. At the moment all the questions still seem very general (especially mine, I'm all over the place right now).
I've noticed there is another similar topic on this

Thanks for clarifying Mac, that's what I thought.
If we include a log-in page, should one still be able to access the registration page even without logging in (in the case of a student as the user). I KNOW we're creating this to be viewed from an administrator's point of view, but in the tut letter it does state:
QuoteThe application must provide the following minimum, essen

Hi Charles
Thanks for the giggle, I really needed it.
Input from all will be appreciated on the following:
I'm busy creating my database and have just finished working out the input types for each field.
In creating the database I started thinking about the forms which will eventually be used to populate the database with information. I have a question relating to this.

Hi Charles and Willem
Totally with you guys on this one. I've finished the Home & Learn, and am planning on starting with my portfolio, but I'm struggling to just get started. I've spent months learning and going over and over the work, but I don't feel like I know anything o_O

Completed this section, but had the same issue as Tessa with some of the next page options jumping to Section 13. So completed some of those too I'm glad I thought to look back at the php.html file again to check why I was getting so confused.

Finally finished this section. Functions (and includes) are great. The idea of having one file with all the useful functions you've created over time, will make coding future projects much faster. As an external source, I found the video tutorials on ThePHPBasics.com to be very useful. I also briefly looked at the list of built-in PHP functions.

I've finished this section and and went through all the scripts. I also found the Youtube video by phpacademy to be very informative Quotehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AnuVr9CWNM.
I honestly spent more time going through and trying to understand Sipho and Rushils scripts - was fun - good job you guys!

Thanks Murray and Kayc, both explanations were helpful. I also spoke to another person who actively works in PHP and he gave me an example from one of his projects where it was necessary, and that also helped a lot.

Completed this section. Can anyone please give me a better (or practical) explanation of when breaking out of loops will be required (executed)? I know how, just don't know why (sorry for the stupid question).

I've finished this section. I'm lucky in that I have a lot of HTML experience, but it's really nice to learn how to actually "submit" info without the limitations of basic email functionality posed with HTML.

I've completed this section and understand if, if_else, if_else if statements. Took me a while to understand in what different practical situation you would use a Switch statement instead of the aforementioned statements. Comparison and logical operators understood, hopefully more regular use will help me to memorize them.

Hi Suzan
Both XAMPP and Notepad ++ are available for download off the internet - if you don't want to wait for the CD.
XAMPP is quite a large download though (about 90M which may, or may not be a problem depending on your internet connection. There is an instruction pdf on the CD on how to correctly install it, but if you're eager to start, download it, and ask me if you get st

Hi Brad
I read the following in the tutorial letter and I don't know if this will help:
QuoteNote: some CD’s may have a corrupt html folder with a few pages not rendering correctly. Please use the course website to download a zip-file containing the correct html files. You can unzip the file to your hard drive and run the above file from there.

Hi,
I'm Kirsten, and a former HTML, CSS and Javascipt student of yours (S2, 2011). You suggested then that I do this course after and I've finally mustered up the courage.
Enjoy your leave Mac, and good luck to everyone that's doing this course this semester!

Hi there Mac
I hope you're still responding to this forum. I was wondering if the short course: developing web applications with php (72095) offered is the logical follow on to this course? If not what would you recommend?
