I also managed to pass, with a distinction (just)! Thanks @eddy, and everyone else that helped out on the forums throughout the yearby InSaNiE - COS340A
Hey all I was just wondering how everyone's exam preparation is going? I'm slightly very behind with mine, and I doubt I am going to even get through all the work before Wednesday (and COS371 on Tuesday doesn't help). The amount of information and theory for this subject is a bit overwhelming. Over the next few days though, I'm going to focus on the past exam papers andby InSaNiE - COS340A
Thanks for the feedback! No need to worry just yet then it seemsby InSaNiE - COS340A
I just noticed now that my assignment 2 has been semi-returned, and was wondering if any one else's is in the same state? On myUnisa, I can view my assignment (the View link is enabled), and when I click the view link a separate screen is opened and I can see my mark on the "Mark Allocation" form. However in the Assignments grid in myUnisa, is still states my percentage as XX. Iby InSaNiE - COS340A
@eddy - you were right! My understanding was slightly off, I was under the impression that bottom left was (0, 1). I've adjusted my code, but still, not a clear texture image. I'm pretty certain my values in between are being calculated correctly - but obviously they aren't. I think I have an understanding of what needs to be done, and how to do it - and I think I've doneby InSaNiE - COS340A
@ phyz - thanks for the tips regarding the values of u and v. I tried to implement it (adjusting for my loop values sometimes being negative etc), but it must be doing something wrong. I end up with a textured mess on part of my sphere. Oh well - I think its going to be submitted like this. With regards to your sphere problems - If you ignore the axis transformation (comment out the code), doeby InSaNiE - COS340A
Maybe I am making it too complicated - I just dont know. The thing is, I am generating numbers between 0 and 1, and to me, it makes sense and is correct. Yet it just does not work. I'm going to try explain my understanding of how the sphere is drawn up, and the method I use to get the values between 0 and 1 - I'll see if I make sense, and maybe you can comment if my logic is way outby InSaNiE - COS340A
No progress is being made - urgh. I started from scratch again, and built up the project bit by bit. I still cannot get the texture to work! I even went and used this example HERE (scroll down just past half way, and I couldn't even get that to work!). All I end up with is a distorted grey scale map on only a portion of the globe. @eddy - I've tried adjusting my angles and multiplyiby InSaNiE - COS340A
Just had a quick look at my code, and realized I am actually just rotating the camera by 23 degrees, and when I draw the sun, I compensate so it appears the sun is rotating on the y = 0 axis. I'll have to play around tonight, and do it properly. The list of outstanding issue is getting longer instead of shorter!by InSaNiE - COS340A
@eddy - Thanks for the advice! I do remember stepping through my code last night, and it was hitting the right values at the right time (the texture coords were 0.5 when my outer loop value was 0, when drawing), but I will double check today. I will probably end up going back and double checking my maths anyways! I'll let you know how it goes (I do have a feeling I'll end up submittingby InSaNiE - COS340A
@phyz - thanks for the tip about the glTexGeni command, unfortunately it didn't seem to work (or I didn't implement it correctly) I started from scratch, and tried to understand how the sphere was being drawn up. I finally understand how the sphere is being built up, but I still cannot seem to link the vertices to the coords in the texture. I''ve tried many things today, buby InSaNiE - COS340A
@phyz - thanks for the input, and no worries - you didn't come across as anything but helpful! And I do appreciate the input. Are you suggesting abandoning using the pointers in the tutorial letter for the assignment, and to not use section 2.4.3 of Angel to draw the sphere, and use gluSphere instead? If so, I'm a bit hesitant to do that, as the question does say we "must do theby InSaNiE - COS340A
@eddy - Is yours not rendering at all, although it all appears to be correct? When I get home later, I can post a few links that I used to get mine working, as well as a few checks you can do to see if you missing a setting or such in code. And yeah, I'm using trig functions to try locate the correct position for the texture. I'll probably end up removing the texture, and just havingby InSaNiE - COS340A
@ eddy The problem I was having was strange, and not related to code directly (as such). Basically, when I was reading in the bmp, I just had it as "earth.bmp", no path. When I ran from the IDE, the application didn't crash, but no texture was happening. For no real reason, I decided to run the exe directly from the build directly, and suddenly I had texture! Then I hardcoded tby InSaNiE - COS340A
@eddy - losing already working code files is very annoying and frustrating, I've been there before. I've finally managed to get SOME texturing working, although its not doing it correctly. Currently its only on a quarter of the sphere. If anyone has successfully managed to get the bmp as a texture for the entire globe - could you let us (me) know what values you are using for the gby InSaNiE - COS340A
@eddy -sounds like you've made some progress with the textures. No matter what I attempt to do, I cannot get ANY texture to display anywhere. But I am on the same page as you. I'm going to spend maybe tonight and tomorrow evening working on it, but after that, its just going to be submitted as is. In the grander scheme of things, spending hours and hours on getting the textures to woby InSaNiE - COS340A
I've been working on getting the texture to work now, for the better part of (another) 3 hours. Unsuccessfully. I'm beginning to think that textures do not, and will never ever work in opengl. Ever. Has anyone managed to set the picture as a texture on the sphere? I could really use some help/input/advice: I'm pretty certain that I am loading the image into memory correctly.by InSaNiE - COS340A
After going back to the drawing board with the lighting, I started from scratch and looked through a few examples, I finally managed to get the lighting working! I now have a blue sphere (the earth), which rotates on a tilted axis, and have a yellow circle (the sun) circling the earth every 28 rotations of the earth (I know the spec says 30, but 28 is more accurate). The light source tracks witby InSaNiE - COS340A
@eddy - any luck getting the texture to work? I tried using that example as well, with no luck. For me, I think the loading of the file into a byte array is working fine, its just when it comes to applying it as a texture, thats where I am missing something (and thats the part which is not in the example) Anyways, I'll carry on plugging away. I did however finally manage to get the ligby InSaNiE - COS340A
@eddy Did you manage to get the texture of lighting to work? I'm pretty much having the same problem. I've managed to get a sphere drawn (red sphere, with a green square going through it, so I can see rotations happening), and have it rotating at a 23.5 degree angle. I cannot however get the texture or the lighting to work. As far as I can tell, I've set everything up correctlby InSaNiE - COS340A

In Parow (Cape Town), there were I think 6-7 of us. But like you guys, I thought the exam was very fair. If you knew the work, you passed. Some of the questions were a little challenging - some of the ND proofs, but I think for all of them, I got some marks at least. I am also usually not that good at induction, but managed to solve this one (I think). Overall, a decent exam. Just one morby InSaNiE - COS361F
Reading through the exam before-hand, and even now after the exam - I didn't think it was that difficult. It however, totally owned me. I knew the work, but for some reason I just could not figure out some of the questions. I may just scrape though..I can hope..by InSaNiE - COS351D

I also got weight as the attribute with the least information gain. I managed to draw my decision tree, but I I ended up not using the weight or height attributes in the tree. Mine lead to yes/no only using the other two attributes. Unless I have missed something, I think it does still work. Hi all Busy with this assignment, and am done with most of it, but just have two questions: Questions 5 - Did I miss something, or what does the symbol in the middle of the sentence mean? Question 8a - I just do not know what they are asking here. "The root node must be the Expressive Correlation feature" - understand so far. But then they say the "outgoing edges must eithby InSaNiE - COS351D

I do not think we need to have a meaning for P - I do not think it matters what P means. I used the model in question 7 as a "template". I *think* (although, I could be wrong) what they are asking for, is for us to give two models - an alphabet of values for the model, Am and a set of pairs of values, Pm - for which the sentence will be true, and another model for which the sentence wiby InSaNiE - COS361F
