I know what NFA is. My question is what is FA-Lambda (bottom page 170) and does Cohen mean the same thing by it as NFA?by rleeman - COS201V
On the bottom page page 170 (Chapter 9, Cohen) the last sentence reads "All the TGs in this proof could be replaced with FA-Lambda's that could then be converted into FAs by the algorithm of Theorem 7." I use Lambda to replace the equivalent Greek letter/symbol used in Cohen. Does anyone know if FA-Lambda means NFA? Perhaps it was mentioned earlier in the text and I missed itby rleeman - COS201V
Last post showing as 01/01/70 for this subject under Forums, prior to this thread anyway. Anybody doing this course and using Osprey? If so how are you getting on with this module so far? It would be good to get posts going for this course so that we can learn from each other. Best wishes, Richardby rleeman - COS201V
I got 85% provisional but to be honest, given my thorough exam prep and what I thought was a strong performance on the day I thought I had actually done slightly better. This is the first time I have actually done *worse* that I thought through UNISA. (Still I am not unhappy, and I am obviously not asking for any sympathy.) What concerned me about this module was that I thought that the markiby rleeman - COS2338
Have you created a project? if yes: Check out project properties (from properties menu), advanced mode. If your simple hello world writes to the command line (a.k.a. DOS / shell) then you need to check "console". If you are using graphics then you need "gui" checked. You probably need "core" and "qt" checked too. Have you got your #includeby rleeman - COS3114
Can you give us a sample code listing, preferably a very short one which distils the essence of the problem you are experiencing?by rleeman - COS3114
Got my hatrick, 100% for all 3 assignments for this course. First time my year mark has been this high. I did put in a monumental effort but perhaps they lecturers were slightly generous...not that I am complaining! Hopefully complacency does not set in before the exam! Well done to the others who posted high marks...good effort. Rby rleeman - COS3114
I noticed that as well. Last year, the exam tutorial letter says that chapter 18 is excluded. There was apparently also confusion then. We need clarification from the lecturers, i.e. is chapter 18 in or out of the subject material for this year's exam? Please could one of the lecturers advise? Rby rleeman - COS3114
My general view on assignment 3 is that it took **considerably** longer than I first expected. What I managed to do by the 20th was woefully inadequate in terms of the question, and had that been marked then I believe that I would not have scored particularly well especially compared with my assignments 1 and 2. Basically, on the 20th my code did not do much of what the question required fromby rleeman - COS3114
Managed 100% for both assignments 1 and 2 so far but I know that I won't be getting that for assignment 3.by rleeman - COS3114
Dear All, I've beaten my previous record for assignment length. My assignment 2 for this course was no less than 46 pages long. That beat my previous record of 43 pages for assignment 1, also for this course. My personal view is that the assignments for COS3114 are too long. I'm not averse to doing lots of work for a tertiary-level course, I just think that this course could haveby rleeman - COS3114
Many thanks, this looks extremely useful. I note links to other courses too - thanks again!by rleeman - COS2338
Sorry for the long posting but please see the helpful/useful e-mail correspondence that I had with one of our lecturers. Plz read from bottom up for errata. I am somewhat embarassed to say that mine was 43 pages long. (As I type this I feel a gentle surge of blood to what are now somewhat rosy cheeks.) I'm not known for short assignments but this was the longest ever by a very substantial margin! Btw I agree with others about having stumbling blocks along the way. I found that I was often hitting hurdles and these took time to overcome. In soby rleeman - COS3114
Yes, but how do you handle directories without making changes to the FileVisitor class, because although the processFile function is virtual the processDir is NOT virtual? I think that is the tricky bit. Rby rleeman - COS3114
Thanks, that is very useful. I will try and do a further posting if I can think of better way other than overriding the function...by rleeman - COS3114
I agree that the question seems to mean directory OR file for the first parameter. However, I am not that clear what to do if a file is entered. Should the program only seach that filename to see if the string (parameter #2) is contained in it? By contrast, I understand that if a directory is given then the given directory and all subdirs are to be searched for directory or filenames that cby rleeman - COS3114
Thank you. As I said to those who sent me private messages asking how I did it: no magic wand, just very hard work! Rby rleeman - COS2144

Some real clarity at last, as to when supp. results will be out. I copied and pasted this from the 'Examination results' link from the UNISA home page: <starts> Release of Results Jan/February 2008 Final results will be published and available on the following dates: Supplementary and Special Examination Results - 18 February 2008 Post Graduate Examination Resultsby rleeman - COS2144
I spoke to the call center again today, and they said that they were not sure but that I should look between mid and late February. Different answer from last time I asked them!by rleeman - COS2144
exp is another way of expressing the constant e. So yes I agree with you.by rleeman - COS2338
I was told early March - I wonder whether the call center makes it up on the fly!by rleeman - COS2144
Has anyone had a look at this yet? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Kind regards, Richardby rleeman - COS2338
I agree, I think that this is a good thing. I think that our skills will be more marketable after this course as the purchase will hopefully make Qt more prominent out there in the market.by rleeman - COS3114
