Location: Chillroom – Internet Solutions – Le Mans Building – The Campus – Cnr Sloane and Main
Agenda:
17:30 – 18:00 Drinks smiling smiley
18:00 – 19:00 Presentation
19:00 onward Supper and networking

Please RSVP on either:
Facebook or
Meetup

Sponsors for the event are Tetrad IT.

Tomek is going to talk about how he and his company is successfully using AWS to run their applications (such as https://JBison.com/ or https://www.circulardms.com/ ). You will be able to find out what Amazon, next to the most commonly known EC2, has to offer developers to make the coding easier and the hosting cheaper. There will be lots of live coding (in Java of course!), because Tomek has a funny accent, which would be difficult to listen to smile

Bio:
Tomek is a CEO of the Polish company SoftwareMill which he has founded over 2 years ago with his friends. He used to work for JBoss, so he is very JBoss-brainwashed. Which he says is a good thing, because JBoss is the best… He is an agile freak/evangelizer and believes more in remote working than in office time-wasting. He is in South Africa for a short while invited by a company which SoftwareMill is partnering with, Tersos Consulting, to perform Application Architect duties for a Big Client. But don't ask him who it is, because then he'll have to kill you...

He first started using Ruby to meet the changing requirements of a start-up in the South African Manned Guarding industry in 2006.

He hasn't looked back since.

Hi all

Toby Kurien will be presenting on Xtend:
"Xtend is a little language that compiles into idiomatic Java source code. You can use any existing Java library seamlessly from Xtend (and vice-versa). The compiled output is readable and pretty-printed, and tends to run as fast or faster than the equivalent handwritten Java code. It's the CoffeeScript for Java.
Xtend Screencast" - http://www.eclipse.org/xtend/

If you saw Toby present last time you'll definitely want to see this one. If you missed him last time, well now's your chance!

Time: 27/08/2012 17:30 for 18:00
Location: Chillroom – Internet Solutions – Le Mans Building – The Campus – Cnr Sloane and Main

Hi all

We'll be going to the ThoughtWorks offices for our next meetup. The Monday is a public holiday so we'll be holding it on the Tuesday.

Patrick Turley will be taking us through Vagrant (virtualization for the masses) and Puppet (declarative management of configuration). If you have any interest in DevOps... you should attend!

Please RSVP on Facebook or Meetup.

Agenda:
18:00 – 19:00 Drinks and pizza smiling smiley
19:00 – 20:00 Presentation
20:00 onward networking and more drinks…

Sponsors for the event are ThoughtWorks South Africa:
ThoughtWorks is not your typical company. Talented, driven and principled people who are passionate about software, brought together because they want to do something amazing.

See you there!

Cheers
Michael
