I have a problem my images aren't showing. I even tried the link you provided on top, and tried all the things written. But still the images aren't showing.
Re: Images

Put your image(pic) and html documenton on same folder.
Re: Images
February 23, 2011 10:14AM
It coul be a typo. According to the example, you should put a '/' infront of your pictures name. remove the / and See what happens.

Read through this especially the examples.

Think of it this way - suppose you phone me for an appointment to come and see me in my office. I tell you - I am in the TVW building.

Your next question will no doubt be: What floor and what office number?

Like I need to tell you where exactly I am, you need to tell the web server the exact path to your images. I want to say that this is beyond this course and is part of basic PC literacy and a prerequisite to this course. But it can be tricky because of absolute/relative paths (see the link here above) . Best advice in the short term (not the best advice but just to get going until you understand the concepts) is to type the full path to an image i.e.
Language: HTML
<img src="http://mywebsite/images/image.jpg">

But I did not suggest this smiling smiley

Am having problems getting my picture to show on my website, this is the path:

<a href="../Documents and Settings/research/Desktop/lesego.jpg"> <img style="Z-INDEX: 100; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 8px; LEFT: 7px" border="0" alt="this is lesego" src="../Documents and Settings/research/Desktop/lesego.jpg" width="136" height="170"/>
Re: Images
March 04, 2011 07:12PM
lesego that path is to a place on your PC. Your picture has not been uploaded to your site.

Lesego - did you read the post 4 places up? I bet not!

You're using the path ="../Documents and Settings/research/Desktop/lesego.jpg . You are telling the server to go and find the image under the folder Documents and Settings/research/Desktop/lesego.jpg . This folder and it subfolder research does not exist on your online website. The server cannot use an image that exists on your PC at home!

Now you need to go and read the post 4 places up.

I had an issue with loading images for assignment 1 - I put the following post under Assignment 1 but probably belongs better here:
.... had a time consuming issue with loading the photo. Initially placed in the same directory as the index file (i.e. in the root on freewebhostingarea.com) and worked fine testing on my machine. However once loaded to host did not work. Problem only solved by changing location (and reference in index file) to a sub-directory call "\images" that freewebhostingarea.com supply as part of the standard set-up. I take it this is a quirk with freewebhostingarea.com and that the initial structure should in theory work anywhere?

It must (will) show even if it is on the root - but you should have it in a sub-folder.

Here I have a pic placed in the root directory of my site http://maccie.6te.net/

Right click the picture and select properties. The address path shows it is in the root directory. This is one way to check that your pic is where your image path says it is.

You could look at the upper and lower case. I allso had some problems with the picture on my website, and it turned out to be my pictures name. I sai picture.GIF on the webpage, when the picture was picture.gif. that could make a big difference.

I had similar problems Claricha, but by loading each file individually to my host solved the problem. Load the image seperately, etc.

Hi, My images won't upload, after several days of reading and trying. I created my website at jura.orgfree.com. But not a single image shows up. In my dayjob I use databases, directories, etc all day long and teach others to use them. Mac, I can't get the instructions of Feb 23rd 05:10pm and March 6th 08:06am to work for me.

Re: Images

Hi everybody, Could someone please find time to suggest a solution? My images still won't upload onto my website. I have tried various things. Several of my images do show up on the Web based FTP Client at: http://orgfree.freewebhostingarea.com/ftp/index.php as HTML file, GIF file or JPEG file. But they still don't show up on my webpage at ]jura.orgfree.com

This morning I tried all the other free webhosting options on freewebhostingarea.com. All indicated that they're temporarily not available. (Have tried noads.biz, 6te.net, freeoda.com, xp3.biz and again orgfree.com).

I would appreciate some help! Thanks

Hi Elizabeth

Thank you very much smiling smiley.
It turns out I was using an incorrect path to my image. Only figured this out after changing the image I don't know how many time, deleting and uploading and and and...

Send me your code maybe I can spot something in there?
Also what type of format is your image? Is the size maybe not appropriate?
Did you manage to upload it to the images folder?

Not sure how to help!?
Re: Images
March 12, 2011 09:21PM
what is the best size for it? and how do you change it.....?
Re: Images
March 13, 2011 08:58AM
Hi Claricha

You may want to refer to Lesson 1 (page 30) about image resolution. To resize you can open the image in paint and select the resize option. In my paint the resize option is on the toolbar as soon as I open the program but you may need to look under edit/tools.

Hope that helps.
Re: Images

Great news! I finally got it right! Elizabeth go to your ftp client and click on the edit button next to your index.html... under your details put in a reference for your image like the one in the "freewebhostingarea registration" topic on the forum.. Rowena posted a reference for your image there... use it, it's about in the middle of all the posts and you have to have your image in the images folder. That should do the trick!
Good luck! =)
