Some questions regarding the exam:
- We get the questions before the time to work out, but is the answers limited to the prescribed book, or the list of "credible" sources? (found some great web sites)
(example: http://www.ebility.com/ for devices for persons with disibilities)
- How do you know a answer is "good enough" ?

Any other tips for the exam preperation?

I presume they are only talking about physical devices? (also only limited to devices in prescribed text book? doubt it)

Thank you for the websites, I've really been struggling to get info from other resources , especially for spinal cord injuries.
I wish I knew exactly which essays will be in the exam, that would make life so much easier!

Riaan, answers are not restricted to the textbook only, you have to consult other resources

Awsome. Thanx for that!
Also a good web site that explains the digital divide much better than the prescribed text, imo.

No you are not!

Wikipedia should be regarded as a reliable source.

My questions, when writing the essays in the exam do we have to qoute references...?
avatar Re: Exam discussion

Tut 102: Try to include references if possible, but we will not penalise you for incomplete references.

Hope that answers your question.

I used wikipedia in my assignments and got a note from the lecturer that wiki is not a source. You should find out who the original source is.

1. Why is it that assignment A03-4.pdf provided as an example of an excellent solution is similar to article by Gudmundsdottir, G B.2005. Approaching the digital divide in South Africa, in NETREED Conference, Beitostolen, Norway at: http://www.netreed.uio.no/conferences/conf2005/GretaGudmundsdottir.pdf? I mean the answer to the question on 'the digital divide'.
2. Again the excellent conclusion by (XXXXXXXX - A03-1.pdf) is same as Gudmundsdottir's conclusion.

This is weird.....

That is called plagiarism! How did the lecturers miss that?
Anyway, good luck for tomorrow's exam, hopefully we all prepared well

Awsome! thanx man! I will take you up on your offer, if I don't make it.
I'm also pretty confident I made it, the question is; is what I wrote down sufficient/correct. Perhaps I answered like a politician...talk for 15 minutes, and after everything, I still haven't answered the question. winking smiley

LOL ... that was the case with my SCI essay.
I enjoyed the paper and the rest of the paper was a breeze.

I'm just curious to know what topic most people chose for their first question; mine was Autism.
And how long were your essays; mine were all 4 pages long.
avatar Re: Exam discussion
February 04, 2011 07:50PM
Same...Autism and 4 pages. smiling smiley

Oh I see ... cool smile
I thought 4 pages would've been a bit too much, but went with it.

I chose Down syndrome. 3-4 pages...

Paper was not bad at all..., but one never knows how Unisa lecturers mark their exams as i am a first time Unisa student.

I hope i made though..., if not definitely will get a distinction if i get to repeat the subject. smile

That's a tough topic.

No need to worry.
Methinks, regardless of the institution, if you stick to the point and answer the question you should be fine.

Still a long wait for the exam results though .... *sigh* ....
Re: Exam discussion

Mine was also autism. The assignment preparation really opened my eyes to my blessings and sources of abundance. Another thought: noted that all kinds of autism-related topics popped in front of me as soon as I had made the choice: Internet, TV, newspapers and then a student appeared in one of my classes with what seemed to demonstrate symptomatic yet lightly visible aspects of autism. This was the first time an IS subject brought me to tears, just reading the textbook! So guess I have been 'spoken' to. eye rolling smiley

If you are 'open' to these sorts of things, this subject will definitely affect you.
My wife is a Nurse working in a rehab ward, for people with SCI, and Brain Damage....I see some of the patients on a daily basis, and doing this subject have only now 'opened' my eyes to some of their difficulties, and how technology can be used, (and is used) to better their living standards.
The bad / good thing also is I sometimes imagine myself as having a disability, and then try to do simple stuff around the house. (Like closing my eyes, and try to walk to the bathroom and try and brush my teeth, without opening them, silly things like that)
to humble myself again, and realise how lucky we are that we don't have a disability.

Would I want to design devices / software for people with disabilities...no, not really; did it make me more aware of people with disabilities, and using technology to up their living standards...YES it did.
