The CSIR Meraka Institute, which is now associated with the Next Generation ICT research unit, has a number of new fully funded doctoral and masters studentships available in the following areas:

• Advanced software research and development, particularly of eHealth systems.
• Mobile technologies and applications.
• Data-intensive programming, including complex data modelling, management, analysis and visualisation.
• Issues affecting the development and implementation of socio-technical systems, including domain modelling and human factors.

Key areas of application for the research conducted and technology developed in the group include:
• Healthcare (health informatics, e-Health and m-Health, standardisation and interoperability in e-Health and m-Health, health data analysis, health information systems compliance, regulatory frameworks to support primary healthcare).
• Government service delivery (e-Gov and m-Gov).
• Socio-technical systems (enterprise and systems modelling, reference models, software engineering methodologies, human factors, user experience, human-computer interaction, natural user interfaces).
• ICT for Development.
