Brief Description
Main Purpose:
To manage and support the optimal utilization, performance and availability of the Universities’ research computing infrastructure in accordance with the University’s strategic objectives, policies and legislative requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide strategic and transformational input for areas of responsibility for alignment with ICT strategies.
• Plan, document, support and manage cutting edge research computing infrastructures to ensure secure operation, optimal utilization, availability and efficiencies.
• Manage and resolve problems for research computing environments.
• Support research programmes including SKA, bioinformatics, CBNN-ATLAS (particle physics), palaeontology, medical informatics, smart grids, and many more.
• Manage and maintain Quality Assurance for research computing environments and/or infrastructure.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
• An appropriate honours degree and/or relevant qualifications, together with relevant experience and competencies in research computing environments.
Years and type of experience:
• 2-5 years minimum.
• Must have solid Linux skills and knowledge of high-performance computing environments.
Preferences:
• Demonstrated experience working in a university or higher education environment or similar and an awareness of the uses of ICT within Universities to support academic environments and/or infrastructure.
• A higher degree in a relevant field is advantageous.
