Checkout the Random Hacks of Kindness event this Saturday! (I'm just spreading the word, not organising it)
In Short:
We will meet on this Saturday, the 3rd December at 09:00h at Boardwalk Office Park, Pretoria. You will find the offices of SAP Research easily.
Bring your laptop.
Challenges:
We will work on different solutions to:
– Crowdsource information about problems in public service delivery.
– Allow charities and NGO's to manage their relationships with (potential) donors.
– Reduce the overhead of metering water & electricity in rural areas.
Besides these challenges which we will feature at the event, we encourage participants to bring in their own ideas and excite a team about it – or work on one of the 250 challenges from rhok.org
How to prepare:
We're sure you are well prepared already. At the event you will use any technology seen as appropriate for the challenge by your team. However there are some systems and technologies that proved to be useful at past rhok events: github & pivotal tracker, rails, sinatra, Qt. Many solutions include mobile development, often Android. If you never heard of any of these, still no problem. Use what you know or learn what you want to know.
Bring a power bar & cord if you have one handy. Soft drinks and pizza provided.
We are equally glad about undergrad students as we are about senior software architects. It's great if you help!
