Exam paper
October 26, 2006 12:19PM
All in all I think it was a very fair paper.Anyone agree?
Re: Exam paper

yes definitely.
Very happy, not because it was easy, but because it was relevant to what was learned and instructed.

We could prepare well and we were asked upon that.

For a change the previous exam papers also gave a good indication as to what level of difficulty we might expect.

(COS221 comes to mind)

Thank you UNISA lecturers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it was a fair paper, not that easy though.

Fair, fair ...

Did anyone else notice that the answer to one of the
questions (list components of star schema) was given
in the multiple choice q16 alternatives?

I struggled to remember, then thought "Hang on,
didn't I just see this a few minutes ago?"

And the description of one of them was also in the multiple choice.

I only drew the first dependency diagram and used the notation "department (dep_code,dep_name,..)" for the rest as I was a bit short on time (trying to fit the big diagram in etc.).

Are we allowed to do that?

Not bad. The MCQ was very easy. The OO question comes exactly as is from last years paper.

I also agree, very fair paper. Nice to know that it is possible for a module to have an exam just as is predicted by the lecturers beforehand. Thank you to the INF303 lecturers for renewing my confidence in the 2006 exams.

Although minor, couple of errata I noted however e.g. "Extensible Markup Language (XSL)" at the end. Also, it wasn't made very clear how to mark the MCQ form i.e. cross, tick, colour-in etc. Wonder why they didn't use a standard UNISA MCQ form?

Very fair paper

When i saw that cross tick thingy i thought INF305 for a second.

Thanks to the lecturers

Was it just me or was one of the MCQ's a dud? :

"Which of the following is NOT a component of a DDBMS?"

1) Computer workstation
2) Communications media
3) Transaction processor
4) Data processor

From what I studied- all are components of a DDBMS?!!

Actually, I do have one small worry.

The question paper said not to tear off the MCQ
answer-sheet, but when I handed the answer sheet
in the invigilator ripped it off and tucked it into
my answer-book.

Did this happen to anyone else as well?

Yeah, I saw that. I wrote the lecturer a little note on that next to the question.

I must add to what everyone is saying. I enjoyed writing that paper after the paper I wrote on the 16th. (You all know which one i mean smile). The exam was a fair combination of Application of knowledge as well as the pure learning that some of us battle with.
Good luck to all of you.
Gotta go - INF307 and 308 are calling....
Re: Exam paper
October 27, 2006 09:50AM
I agree with you. I actually did not tick of any of the answers. Instead I wrote across the blocks and said that all the options are part of the DDBMS.
Re: Exam paper

Does anybody have previous 308 papers?
Re: Exam paper
October 27, 2006 11:05AM
The format of the mcq was a bit odd. I've just realised that I might have maked my answers incorrectly of the answer sheet.... I actually wrote the options in on the 1st column of the answer sheet...I hope I don't get penalised....
Re: Exam paper
October 27, 2006 12:14PM
hahahaha

i think that will be ok.
Re: Exam paper
October 27, 2006 12:24PM
What you think the five colums with headers for each of the possible answers were for? smile I'm sure the markers will understand though.
