Assignment 1 Question D
February 12, 2010 12:14PM
The questions require Muller's method, which requires 3 parameters, but the questions only provide 1.
What do we use for the other 2?

Playing around with values shows that it could affect the answer somewhat.

There is a post on the subject discussion forum on myUnisa about it. What it comes down to, from my understanding, is using the 3 values from the 3 questions in D for the method and then just copying the same answer to the 3 questions when you have an answer.

Dear Students,

when doing your first assignment, please consider the following:

The three sub questions (13, 14, and 15) under question D, are all the same. You may do only one and report the result to the others. Consider the following starting points:

x0 = 1 .1, x1 = 1.3, and x2 = 0.9

That does not make any sense. Report the result to the others?

Yeah, makes no sense, but I assumed it means that we use the same values for all 3 questions, in which case the answer will be the same for all 3 questions (which makes sense since the post also implies that the the 3 questions are the same).

I just received assignment 1 back and it seems I was wrong about questions 13, 14, 15. I answered option 3 for all of them as that is how I interpreted their instructions (You may do only one and report the result to the others. Consider the following starting points:
x0 = 1 .1, x1 = 1.3, and x2 = 0.9). I seems you need to only mark q13 with the correct answer and then mark 14,15 with option 5 (none of the above) which make no sense seeing that you need to "report the result to the others" and option 3 for all questions are the same.confused smiley

@Motaboy

I interpreted it exactly the same way. I answered 3 for all of them, but only got a mark for 13, no mark for 14 or 15. They really should be more clear with what they want us to do.
