Out of interest who is using what version of Delphi?

Last year I managed to make use of the Borland promo to get a free licence for Delphi7 Personal.

Got Delphi7 personal working under Wine in Ubuntu9.10 - very easy. Prefer to use Ubuntu for my assignments. Usually use VirtualBox.

I'd like to use Kubuntu too but it's not recognizing my laptop's wireless card. Ubuntu 9.04 was doing fine, but 9.10 Ubuntu and Kubuntu are not detecting it at all.
Quite crappy really cause Kubuntu is not connecting with my cellphone too. What a bunch of bollocks.
Much as i'd like to move away from Microsoft, Ubuntu is making it a rather daunting task for me.

Kubuntu seems to be more a prototype of what LINUX should do than actually being functional.

I must say that Ubuntu9.10 has really grown up. Very few problems with hardware, I would go so far as to say that it is just as much effort under Windows to get this hardware working as what is under Ubuntu.

Cannot wait for 10.04

I'm thinking of rolling back to Ubuntu 9.04 then upgrade to karmic from there. I really like the UI of Kubuntu with all the Glossy-in-your-face menu items and desktops but it seems impossible to get anything done with it. I mean what's a laptop without wireless connection? <crap> yada yada yada yada </crap>

LOL. Reason why I'm using Ubuntu remix and Kubuntu remix on my netbook.

I use Delphi 7 , it's one that I could download for free.

Same one as mine then. You can still download the ".zip" file but you can no longer get a free licence from Borland (CodeGear).

The only issue with the 7 Personal edition is the lack of ODBC support. But you can do a few hacks to overcome it.

would using delphi 2009 or 2010 cause any difficulty in terms of studying this course? reason why I ask this is because I see the textbook seems to cater for delphi 7/8 mainly.

From what I understand, no.

As long as you have delphi 5 or later. Delphi 7 or better is the safest.

I think it's better to use the one they use in the textbook.. just makes it easier when they give small details to know what they are talking about. I did this module last year. I used Delphi 7 which I also downloaded for free. I still use it for fun now to do bit of databases not covered in the course.

Enjoy this module.. its really fun and very simple.. thumbs up smiley

I NEED MAJOR HELP!

My assignment is due on Friday, 5 March 2010. I only recieved CodeGear last week Wednesday (and I didnt buy it late).

Besides that, my Delphi 2009 doesn't work. !!!!!!

It won't compile or run. I opened demo programs and they wont run either!!!
I googled the error, and it seemed i should update the program, which i did.

350mb later - NO CHANGE!

I then ran a repair on the program, still no luck.

I'm outta options and getting a bit desperate here.

I'm running Windows XP professional.

HELP HELP HELP!

Leigh-Ann, while I'm unable to assist you I can advise that you finish your assignment first (without your delphi IDE).

Rather loose the 1 or 2 points than not make the deadline and not be admitted to exams.

You can always resubmit your assignment again before the due date if you get your IDE running.
