Task 6A-1

6. Programs written by hackers are tools that they use to access computers. Some examples are Cold life 4.0, John the Ripper 1.6 and Intelli Tamper. Another program they use is Spy ware Cookies. Cookies store information that the person has visited. Sometimes the site could ask for a username and a password. Examples of these programs are Real Hard Core and Tele Chargement.

In my opinion sites like these should be banned, they shouldn’t be allowed on the internet. They are so easy to access, any one can do it. Network administrators should monitor hacker sites, because people and business lose a lot of money due to hackers. They lose a lot of money either by buying anti-viruses programs for an example or by formatting the computer due to severe viruse infections.

There are a number of downloadable programs or hacking tools on the net. Programs such as Cain and Abel, John the Ripper and Free Scratch and Win are available. These programs enable people to scan and copy passwords, look up visited sites (Cookies) and deleted files and they gain access to networks and control computers by remotely giving commands to the computer.

Prevention can be done through the researching of such programs and finding counter measures, like regularly updating virus scans, virus databases and virus dictionaries. One can also get into the habit of deleting cookies or keeping away from sites that insist on saving cookies in order to visit the site. One can also make sure they keep away from sites that offer free software or games as they usually have Trojans or malware attached. Network administrators must be informed about such sites and techniques and find counter measures to prevent loss of information and privacy.

I believe that its bad to have such programs on the net as they encourage the invasion of privacy and increase criminality on youths and those that have nothing better to do with their time tongue sticking out smiley

With all the tools out there, and how easily they can be obtained, it definately is a bad thing. Im sure its a tough enough job protecting your network from "legitimate hackers" now you also have to contend with bored, irresponsible people. I think the hacking sites should be hard to access so people would have to hack them to get more info smiling smiley

But ye networks admins should always keep up date with info about the tools and techniques their enemies use. Im sure the hackers play with antivirus software all the time.
