Negative Marking

I'm working thru some of my assignments if preperation for the exam and going thru my asignment 2 I noticed that I was negativly marked for various questions. Now, I did not read anything in my tutorial letter stating that negetive marking will be done. Can they do this without telling us? I know it's a bit late now, i did get admission for the exam but still, will we be negetive marking apply in the exam?

Oh wait, scrap that... it would seem that you start out with the X marks for a question and the they do a type of backwards marking...
