Domain Name Registration Services
www.sadomain.co.za
Cost: R200 once off, then R92 per year for .co.za
R165 for .com/.net/.org

www.cozahost.com
Cost: R249 once off, then R175 per year for .co.za and .com

To whom does the registration fee go?
Domain name registration costs depend on the costs levied by the central domain authority PLUS the costs of an ISP to support and provide infrastructure for the domain name.
Domain names are registered with central domain name authorities. For instance, a .co.za domain name is registered with Uniforum, while a .com domain name is registered with, for instance, Dotster.

The central domain name authorities charge a fixed and constant price for domain name registration. This means that there is a flat fee payable for .co.za domain registrations, and a flat fee for .com domain name registrations, and so on.
ISPs provide additional services for your domain name (as explained above) and will add an additional charge on top of the basic domain registration cost. Depending on the level of the additional services, the profit margin of the ISP and their pricing strategy, domain registration prices can vary greatly.

Free Domain name registration?
The only free domain name registration services that I found were offered as part of a paid for ISP service, or as part of a paid for web design and hosting service.
