How to start??
February 28, 2010 01:17PM
Hi mates, do not know how to start this module. Have read tut 102 and refreshed the maths there. But I cannot understand where is the OPENGL software. It seems that its just the C++, but bot sure. Please help.
Also the book seems not being helpful.

It is C++
You have to install the DEVC++ from the unisa CD as per the instructions, it explains step by step how to open a project for OPENGL etc...

African Boy, don't know if you want to, but last year I used Visual Studio as the IDE for COS340. Why? simply because it's a better IDE than DEVC++.

I had linking problems, and HAD to save my source files as .c files. .cpp did not work for some unknown reason. I also had various problems with other #includes. with visual studio I had none of that.

I can email you the instructions on setting OpenGL up for visual studio (2005) if you want them.

Also, as tedious as chapter 4 might be (and very long), don't skip anything. there is so much info in there!

Also, visit the book's website http://www.cs.unm.edu/~angel/

I used emacs as my ide, and did everything on Linux when I did the course.

Also all the sample code is in C, which is probably why you had to save the source files as .c and not .cpp

Hi 36187844, Thanks for the help. Finally I managed to kickstart with OpenGL on C++. But still have some flaws. The textbook is huge and slow in information. I found the chapter 2 primer, (material posted on the website by UNISA i guess) very straight forward and easier to grasp and even program.

How does the exam look like?? Assignments 2 & 3 really look very terrifying to me!! smile
Anyone with other reading materials apart from the book itself please email me if u can.

Thanks

I got 80% when I took this course. It was very fascinating and one of my favourite courses - so I check this forum every now and then.

C has different includes than C++ - and is a different language with some similarities -- so to make C code work in a C++ compiler you normally have to tweak some stuff.

shinny, but not that interesting, cant you do the same rendering in 3dsmax / maya? I prefer the fractals, especially the 3d ones. Have you rendered any 3d fractals yet?
