It's my next exam, I've got INF308J on the 11th, right after, and the rest later on in Nov...so I'll have to go at it full swing from today. Where to start...

My head hurts.

Anyone else have some summaries or notes that could be of some assistance?

I guess we only have to really be able to answer questions related to the Checklists in tut 501? Will there be questions about OS examples, for instance how Unix implements a file structure or something?

I don't think there is any Unix type questions this year.

No questions on Java or Unix will be included in the exam.

Best of luck!!

Luckily, 80% is "sums" - much "cooler" than the 80% theory we got in Cos340.
Re: Exam Prep

I must agree with Reanie about the "sums"!
I'm going to concentrate more on the calculations etc that they've asked in the tutorials...

How would you guys approach Q1 of the example exam paper?

"Explain the difference between a semaphore and a monitor. Also give the classical definitions of the wait() and signal() operations, as well as one programming example (in a block-structured
pseudocode language) of the implementation of a monitor."

Specifically the monitor implementation part, i'm not sure how much they expect.

Would something like this be suitable:

monitor monitor_name {
shared variables;
condition x;

procedure p1 {
do something
if something != something_else

procedure p2 {
do something

I do have summary notes for this module, but it is not of much help, only 20% will be theory, you better go do the calculations and you'll be OK (I hope!)
