confused smiley Problem in setting the relation of course_student to the other tables
October 20, 2008 01:57PM
Hi there,
I have a problem in setting up the relation of the course_student table to the other two tables course and student - is it a question of

1. setting up referential integrity in phpMyAdmin:
Check referential integrity:
# cid -> student.sno
# sno -> course.cid
Honestly, I cannot remember how I have set up this reference.

2. joining course with course_student and student with course_student

3. setting mother - in this case two, the student and the course table - and a child: course_student

Moreover, how can a year be unique? Whatever chosen, e.g. year of registration, birth, a year will never be unique???

I am pleased to get some hints.

Thanks & Regards,
Iris

Your questions are a bit vague.....

what reference set up where?

what do you mean by joining? If you have a course student, and you want to show
the courses he is registered for, you query the student_course db. You get the sno, which you then use to query the student db to extract his personal information. Same with the course. In time, it is better to save the course name in student_course (but we want to test you here smiling smiley

what mother and child setting where?

Ignore the extra info column - just use the dump to create your tables.
