looking for the title of a (local?) song
December 08, 2008 10:18PM
is a rock song, with a folky feel
its got violins in it

some of the lyrics ( i tried google, nothing):
[title] [violin] [title]
caught between the angels and the devil...
[the bridge part of the song] in a small town, you're coming up for air but they push you back down

URBAN CREEP - SEA LEVEL
Loved that albumn, I borrowed it from the Durban Library over half dozen times.

Gogle fails! BUt I remember some lyrics "I don't care what you said, I've got dust on my takkies, a bump on my head" - it's been a while since I heard that - my top 5 albumns of all time.

Can we work out the rest?

[verse]
i don't feel much better after what you said
still got dust on my takkies, a bump on my head yeah
i think i'll leave now, if that's ok
its just not the kind of thing that i thought that you'd say

[chorus]
well its a small town
you're coming up for air and they push you back down
sea-level
sea-level
i'm caught between the angels and the devil

[verse]
let me tell you a little something that [??]
we got a heart full of promise but our heads a little dilly
we're the kind of people that jump and shout yeah
and we've all got addicted to [??]

I vaguely remember that song and I think I liked it. I can't listen to it now because I'm at work.

and the line is : "let me tell you a little something about Surf city"
('twas the golden age, when the Sharks ruled rugby, the Dolphins cricket, and the Durban bands the airwaves ( scooters union, arapaho, famous curtain trick etc ).

Some of the other songs of the albumn were curious, fly, slow thighs, noah , tripping on mppnshine and universe.I remember "don't look back now" & now that I google "near me" as well. One line of "universe" - "you sure unwound my universe" sticks to mind, and from "curious" - "if you just lay down your body" something. Chris Letcher and Brendon Jury are true artists and poets.

Wasn't it Brendan Jury (sp?) that sang for Urban Creep? Blond dude?
He played with the Nude Girls as well, no?

I remember (vaguely) seeing the Nudies play, and after the set, him telling the crowd to "only do good drugs".

Those were the days...

Yes. There was a good band from Durban (or PMB I think) called Celtic Rumours, but the lead singer, Kevin van Staden, died in a car crash just as they "made it". They had a famous (for the time) song called "Slow Rain".
