Thank Mac

Just a general question. I spend a good few hours on the web with google reading up on the authentication image used with forms to ensure that it is a human submitting the form. Found many an oppinion. Is there a site that one could go to, to get help on this and on how to add a visitor counter and other such things?

Quite a few sites had the value of the validation image stored in the form page as a hidden field. What good is that. A crawler could read that value, enter it into the required field and submit the form. Also the image is very basic. Nothing to make it difficult to read with character recognition software.

Will continue with my hunt till I find something that will work.

Thanks

Hi.

Hope all is well..

I use for basic sites that require captcha, i use auto generate number..

Example:

//Generates random number for captcha
$random_digit=rand(000000,999999);
I will display that number in my form and I include a hidden field with the auto generated number as the value.

<input type="hidden" name ="captcha" value="<?php echo $$random_digit;?>">

That will generate a random number the same number in 2 places. I designed a nice background to go under the numbers to make it look nicer and a little more confusing lol. The page processing the script will check if the 2 fields(user input and hidden) fields match.

I recently made a website for a guesthouse. I included a guestbook which didn have captcha. After 5 days it received over 100 lines of spam. I included the above script and since had none.

You can check hotscripts.com for php captcha scripts.

Hope it helps.

Enjoy
