Introduce Yourself...

Ok, this is a bit off the topic, but considering that we don't have classes,I rate it would be nice if we had an idea of who our "class mates" are.

So here goes, I am Andrew Gilham aka Gilham. I live in Cape Town and have been working for incuBeta.com for almost 3 years. I am 26 and a keen surfer.

I am always keen to help others due to the fact that this is the best way to learn. I find the biggest problem with self studies is that I never know what to work on or what to try and do. I guess thats why I am so keen to get started on the project. But that is going to have to wait until I have done the ground work first.

Personally I hate reading, I would rather rent the DVD. But thats what makes coding so insane, cause its not reading, its doing!!!

And i found that you can read and read and still not be able to code. You actually have to site there coding.

I must say that I almost live on www.php.net It is the best source of "why isn't my code working" help.

Well, hope to find out more about you guys/ladies as well smoking smiley

Cheers
Gilham

Good idea Super G.

Hi All!!! I'm Sandile Motsa aka Msandie. I'm a Mathematics lecturer at the University of Swaziland where I've been working for the past 7years. Visit my personal homepage at aicafrica.com/sandile if interested in getting more details about me.

Why am I doing a PHP course? I got bored with maths and decided to try webdesign.
So far I've mastered HTML and CSS and have been developing static webpages in the last 2 months. Check out my portfolio at http://www.aicafrica.com/html/portfolio.html

Decided to do a PHP course in order to be in a position to create dynamic, interactive Web sites and advanced database driven website. PHP is also the fastest growing Web Development tool. I figured that by mastering PHP I'll provide myself with either a usable hobby or a lucrative skill.

Let me end here before I bore you.
Cheers!!!smileys with beer

Hi All!!

I'm Vicky (sounds like an AA meetingsmileys with beer) and I'll be 31 in September.
I work for a Hotel in Pretoria as a Conference Co-ordinator. I did Unisa's Webpage Design Course last year and PHP was the next logical step for me.

Derya, I am have the same problem as you because working in a hotel is very demanding and I don't alway leave here when my shift ends. I also try and do as much as possible over weekends.

When I'm finished with this course I'm going to do a scuba diving course. Last year I decided that I'm going to do all the things I've always wanted to do but was just to damn lazy!

Well I need to get back to actually working...

Cheerio!

Ah Andrew..... you know, in my younger days I happened to be the coach of the Natal Schools Surfing team (grew up and worked in Durban). So you've touched a raw nerve here.... I ve done all sports (you name it) and nothing will ever come close to surfing smiling smiley In Durbs, of course, since CT is way too cold.... could never handle more than 1 hours in CT water.. No wonder you guys can't surf - one's feet get so cold after a few minutes (even with booties) that
you look like a helicopter with more arms than anything else :0

Hi guys,

I'm Martin Tobler, 27, and I'm a *holic smile I'm the IT-guy for a small automation company, but that involves anything from online orders from Pick 'n Pay to PC assembly to Intranet creation (my primary reason for doing this course). I had already started teaching myself, but figured this course might get me ahead faster.

I'm hoping we all gain the knowledge we have set out to get!

Hi! All

I'm Johannah but I prefered to be called Tsholofelo means Hope, I'm 27 yrs old doing my internship at SITA for System Development/Web Development, actually before I started with SITA I was working for this other small IT company they have moved to UK on June.

The reason I do this course because I want to grow myself and gain knowledge since well I'm building my career. The other reason is not about money is about having the passionate feeling about it. Love of the game!!!

I'm bit behind because of some other reason but I will really push to coverup where ever I've missed out as much as I can.

Cheers!!

Hi all

My name's Liesl, and I've been playing around with html and static web design for the past four years - actually a PR person gone wrong - found out I preferred playing with my computer to talking to people. I'm at the Department of Agriculture Western Cape.

Why php? Simply because I got frustrated changing the calender on my website manually, battled with the code, decided that I needed to understand what I was doing first!

my website: http://www.elsenburg.com if anyone's interested. Next step there is to migrate to a CMS system - probably Joomla - too much manual updating!

very behind, but I've been incredibly busy at work and had some hectic things happening in my personal life as well.I am, however, catching up fast.

Welcome Lieslm

i am sure you are going to catch up very quickly and if you have any questions, just shout.

i personally use joomla as a CMS and it is very powerful but can be a bit much for a small site.

Cheers

thanks for the welcome!

Gilham - can I shout if I need help with Joomla? I'm going to migrate our intranet to Joomla first as a trial (after November!!!), and I'm a little worried. The intranet might be too small for it, but it will be good practise. It'll be nice to know there's someone I can shout out to for help.
