Next year
October 26, 2007 08:42PM
Next year I plan on studying harder throughout the year and getting to know the subject content well and not waiting until the exam study period comes around to try to understand the difficult sections.

When the exams come round I'll only have to revise and not relearn everything.

Just because I don't study, doesn't mean I'm not motivated!
[Added]
If I didn't want to finish my degree, I would never have re-registered this year which was surposed to be my final, but it didn't turn out to be so.
I'm just lazy when it get's to the study for exam part.

the sad thing is that you'll probably get better marks than me.

I also always think that, I start the year off very well, and about half way through I crash... end up studying the day before the exam again winking smiley

stop worrying about next year, have a break, relax. Forget about studies, enjoy the festive season. Party on new years.
avatar Re: Next year

The only thing I got right was that I now hand in assignments a week before the due date, instead of the due date. Making summaries and studying on time, well, I've got 1 year left - too late to try and change that! Not worth the effort...

I have to worry about next year - thats when my exams are ... I don't get a break now sad smiley
Re: Next year

I'm thinking of taking less modules next year, although it does mean an extra year then.
But I don't think I could handle another year like this one. I took 8 x 2nd year modules this year, and this along with a stressful job has resulted in me aging about 5 years in 1.
..... although it then means another year before I finish - tough decision.
Re: Next year

8 is a lot of modules!

I'm planning on taking 6 2nd level modules next year and 6 2nd and 3rd level modules the year after and then I'm done.

6 2nd year is okay but 6 3rd year modules can be a bit tough - I was lucky that when I was doign that I had a lot of spare time.

My life is work and studying so I should have enough spare time

Re: Next year
October 29, 2007 02:02PM
Tracey - you require at least 8 x 3rd year modules, have you already done 2?
Re: Next year
October 29, 2007 02:18PM
oops, I'm doing 6 second and third level modules next year and 6 3rd level modules the year after.

Work's going okay, just come back today after being off since Tuesday because of exams.
Today's going okay, just a bit difficult to get back into it after such a long break.

I want some advice from the old hands.

I want to take MAT113, COS112, COS113, APM113, APM114, STS1055 next year.

Is it a good idea to take 2 applied maths modules together in one year? Also, If I pass MAT113, will they give me credit for MAT111? I want to take Differential Equations as a 2nd year module in place of it.
avatar Re: Next year

i'm hardly an old hand, but...

apm114 is outrageously easy, especially if you've done some calculus before. i can send some tut letters and 1st assignment solutions if you want to back this up. i assume 113 isn't any different, so you can really pass both without any real effort.

regarding differential equations, i recommend doing cos233 and cos332 (they have equivalent apmXYZ course codes) as they provide really good coverage of differential equations and numerical methods - two of the best courses unisa has to offer i think. have a look at the osprey forums for those subjects, and if you want i can send some course material.

That would be great. Send it.

Then I am definitely going to take it as second year modules.

I have read somewhere that if you pass MAT113 then you may get a credit for MAT111, as long as you replace it with another maths module. No need to do MAT111 if it is not going to teach me anything new.

At least these other modules will teach me ways to apply my maths and calculus knowledge.

lol, it's so easy i forgot that i did it last year! even looking at the assignments i included in the above zip file, it seemed so foreign, and yet trivial smiling bouncing smiley

fixed the zip to include apm114 stuff, it's around 2.8mb of pdfs now.

Just out of interest, did you guys choose the existing degree streams like Software Engineering or did you concoct your own degrees?
avatar Re: Next year
November 01, 2007 02:31AM
if i had any idea that one could, i wouldn't be doing this shitty set of courses i am sad smiley

courses i could do without:

1. ops201 and 202 (failed)
2. cem101 (still have to do)
3. mat307 and the discrete maths before it (pure concentrated suffering)

but i digress, yes, i am doing a preset stream, scientific computing. i chose it because the stream i was doing at uct had the same name, and i was hoping to have just a few subjects left to do. ha, ha, ha, ha sad smiley
avatar Re: Next year

I selected my own subjects as I wanted to get as many excemptions from my previous study attempt as possible.

Whats the difference between precalculus A, precalculus B, calculus A, calculus B?
Do you need to finish them in sequence? Do you need to finish all of them?
