TASK 2C -4 Question 2
August 20, 2006 06:04PM
Digital Domainz (http://www.digitaldomainz.com): registration ranges from once off payment of R300.00 to R700.00, and yearly renewal of R70.00. The prices differ by the domain type (e.g. .co.za, .com, .org, .org.za, .net etc). A .us.com domain costs R700.00/2 years.

S A Everything (http://www.saeverything.co.za): offers hosting from R166.00/m to R183.00 for 120MB Web space. They Offer free .co.za domain registration with annual renewal fee or R149.00 without hosting.

CozaHost (http://www.cozahost.com) offers R249.00 and annual renewal R175.00.

AfriHost.Com (http://www.afrihost.com) offers free domain registration on condition they host your website at R199.00 per month.

Interestingly, Autographic Website Design (http://www.autographics.co.za) offer 5MB web hosting for R15/m and free DN registration. Actually you are offered a sub-domain. As your web space increases, you start paying for DN registration but as you take bigger packages they offer free DN registration.

Registration fee goes to domain authorities (people who are responsible for keeping ownership records of the registered names as well as the infrastructure for the domain names – also called the hostmaster) and ISPs. Most ISPs are basically resellers of domain names registration services, while some domain names registration service providers also provide website hosting services.

There are organisations which offer free domain name registration on condition they host your website for a fee. This proves that there's basically no free domain registration or web hosting, i.e. it is either they host your website or you advertise their website.

The following websites are outstandingly bad in my opinion.

a. http://www.christiangaming.com
b. http://www.dr-schulze.com/home_1024x768.asp

These are some of the attributes which make them really awful:

Too much graphics (photos used as background) and very little narrative (descriptive text). It takes forever to download. The links are not apparent unless you do a mouse-over some of the images, which makes navigation a nightmare. Not user friendly. Colour scheme is not appealing, e.g. white bold text on a black background with very large bold red fonts as headings.
