Has anyone else received the above tutorial letter?

I got this today and it basically says that all students

in the college of human sciences will be allowed to

write a supp if they fail due to administrative errors

earlier in the year with the assignments.

Confirmation anyone? Does this apply to students doing

a Bsc. (computer science and information systems)?

I ask because I've not heard of the college of human sciences

before.

thanks]]>

How was the exam for u guys? I just couldnt finnish the time was not enough. A quest, do the examiners mark pencil? A quarter of my exam is done in pencil because i didnt had time. Do u think they will mark it, bit worried about that?]]>

Maybe it should have been LefOF(b,d) ?]]>

I found some solutions to the questions in the Prescribed book.

Anybody interested can drop me a mail and i will send it to them.]]>

How does one tell if sentences are Logically equivalent and Logical consequences of each other? My understanding is that you can only use the truth-table method to prove if they are Tautological consequence and equivalence... correct?]]>

Does anyone know if we can safely follow/trust the study guidelines in tut101 (pg 10). I mean for example it says from chapter 1, we only study up to section 1.4

Can I assume that the other material in this chapter is not examinable?]]>

Thanks.]]>

A hint from the lecturer would also be helpfull to point us in the right direction

Thanks

The solution to Ass 2 Q2.2 relies on this rule to prove the conclusion. First of all, I didn't know that you could use anything other than the Boolean Intro and Elim rules in deductive proofs. Secondly, the solution says that the deductive syllogism rule and the modus tollens rule are found in chaps 3 and 4. I think I'm going blind because I can't find them at all. Please could sight-advantaged people please post the page numbers.

If I'd have known of this rule, I would have nailed the question. I just got stuck because I didn't know what to do with the "A v B v C" premise. I got from A to ¬B but I couldn't figure out how to get from ¬B to A.]]>

I submitted my third assignment today and noticed that for all my subjects there is no longer a date received in my unisa.

Ever Successfully! submitting this assignment no date was added to that column.

Can some of you also please go and look at that field and let me know if you see a date received so that I can follow up with UNISA of required.

Thanks]]>

I was wondering if there are anybody in Richardsbay currently doing this course. I REALLY had trouble with assignment 2, which means that I only have one shot left to get the needed credits. If anyone can help please email me at elize.vosloo@lepsis.com

Thanks!!!]]>

I'd like to know if we'd be penalized if we used the syntax style used in The Languages of Logic by Guttenplan?

I am having trouble with this question, can someone please help me.

i break the disjuncts of B v C up, but when i do the subproofs for B, i can only prove A/\B for that subproof, and when i do the subproof for C i only prove A/\C. How do i prove A/\C for subproof B and A/\B for subproof C.What am i missing?

After all you have to prove (A/\B) for disjuncts B and C, and also have to prove (A/\C) for disjuncts B and C.

Thanks for the help.

I find that the authors have placed FAR TOO MUCH weight on their computerised learning system and not enough on actual explanations in print. I would gladly throw away the CD for an appendix with only 10% of the exercises worked out. At the moment, I find myself wondering if I'm even doing anything correctly. Apart from this, we only get 3 assignments' worth of comments to figure out if we're on the right path or not.

I don't know about anybody else but I've not registered for the grade-grinder for the simple reason that you can blatantly see if your solutions are wrong when using the programmes that there's really no point in letting some webpage confirm it for you. Besides, I find those more mechanical-type questions a lot easier than the rest.

What really bugs me is that I like to go through ALL the exercises but the ones I find more valuable to work through all have little pencils next to them. According to the textbook, we're supposed to e-mail those to our lecturers to get them to comment on our solutions. This I'm loathed to do because I know how much work they've got to do and they'll probably get pissed off if every student send in every single little exercise.

I went to the book's website to see if there was a solutions manual for sale somewhere but I couldn't find one. The whole site seems to market the book around the fact that there is computer-assisted learning packaged with it. Well, sorry if I disappoint the authors but I think they've just used these programmes to grossly over-inflate the price of the textbook (the most expensive one this year) One that I've found the least value in. Tarsky's world is fun to play with but it more of a gimmick. I find Fitch and Boole more useful but I only use them for checking stuff I've worked out on paper.

I don't know if it's the case with any other students but I find the FOL notation extremely verbose and cumbersome. I find myself translating everything into P, Q and R, working out the problems like Gutenplan did and then translating back into FOL. I just think the notation adds unnecessary clutter to the page that makes it difficult to see what's going on.

Please would somebody explain why this textbook was chosen. I'd far rather have Gutenplan Part 2. At least he explained things clearly and there were sufficient examples and solutions to exercises.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PLEASE COULD SOMEBODY CREATE A SOLUTIONS MANUAL FOR THIS TEXTBOOK

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the meantime, will any lecturers object if I e-mail them my solutions for comment; just like the textbook instructs me to do?]]>

I've already ordered the prescribed book but unfortunately, due to a misunderstanding with the bookseller , i havn't received it yet. I' already missed the first assignment and I absolutely need to attempt the second one to gain exam sitting.

Since question 1 of assignment02 is from the prescribed book, can you please send me the question.

Thanks a lot,

How do we tell when a sentence needs the Ana Con or the Taut Con rule?

I cannot seem to get Question 3 right. Anybody out there who can give me some sort of direction?

Thanks lots]]>

I just wanna check how the rest of the students will be submitting the question regarding Tarski's World Form (Question 1.2) via SOL.

I created a form in Excel and just copied it to my Word Document.

Will that be acceptable?]]>
