Did anyone get Exam Results as yet ?
This module is the only one outstanding. Doesn't even have the Course code on my result list.
Today is the specified release date.

Students they been talking about results are out, mine I do not see them because at myunisa->My admin->Examination results ICT3612 it has not been captured like other modules, it does not appear because at first i did not receive the sms, I resend the email with url again, after two days I got sms. Now I have not get my results like other students.

I know you said the marks are not debatable, but how on earth did I get a zero for my portfolio if I have submitted, I know it was not perfect to the t, but a zero?

Dear Dr Van Der Merwe

Please be advised that I have submitted my portfolio in a working condition on 12/09/2012. But now I have realized after some time that it cannot connect to server for OOP4 & OOP5 with the message displaying "couldnt connect to server" and also the display button/select is gone now.

Please advise what I should do in this case as I don't know by the time you marked it was working fine or not.

Although my Portfolio has been submitted, I just found that there are major differences in the way my site behaves if I change my web browser from Mozilla Firefox to Internet explorer. I haven't tested it on other browsers yet. I've used Mozilla Firefox to develop my portfolio site and also tested it to be functioning correct with Firefox.

If I access my site with Microsoft Internet Explorer (I use it at the office), I found remarkable differences in the quality of the HTML part and the way the HTML code behaves.

I really hope this will not affect my marks as I am unsure what browser the marker might be using!!

Mac, Maybe if you can comment on this?

My portfolio is finished, however for the last 3 days I have been struggling with this one last problem. Even 2 x php help phorums could not assist.

Can anyone tell me why this function is returning the user_id instead of first_name and last_name? Query does not fail.

Hi Mac

Just submitted my portfolio and posted all files to the free server. All runs fine on my local machine with phpMyAdmin and EasyPHP running in the background.

Ran a test online (I'm using orgfree.com) and realized that with OOP4 and OOP5 the server cannot locate my database, since it's on my local machine.
This in turn means OOP4 and OOP5 cant access the tables. Is it meant to be this way?

I have inserted in the body of the mail sent to you through mylife the screen shot of the confirmation message after uploading the zip file but the image does not display in the body of the mail(I checked after I sent it).
Can we attach that screenshot to that mail? For example like a word document.

Hi Mac,

I would like to let you know that there are some mistakes in the screen shots you gave us, if we compare them with the results we have after running the code.
The results I get from the database differ from the screen shots you provided even though I followed correctly the structure of the database and the different tables.
Please double check the screen shots 2 and 5 and compare the results and the content of the tables.

Relation between oop4-5.php and user_find.php / database tables (3 replies)

Hi there

I’m a bit confused with oop4 and oop5.

We have to adapt user_find.php to produce an output if submit is_set else it should produce a drop down list. Simple enough

My question is what is oop4.php needed for? Does it simply point to user_find.php? Or do we have to echo the form on oop4.php and have it submit to user_find.php? The latter seeming a bit clumsy.

Secondly oop5 requires us to adapt user_find.php once more to produce a different output. What then do we call this second modified version of user_find.php? user_find_oop5.php?

Would it not be simpler to copy the contents of user_find.php into oop4.php and oop5.php and do away with the two versions of user_find.php?

Finally, for oop5 we need to create a new user_friends table in the database with modified associations.

I can call this new table user_friends_oop5 for example, but that would require me to adapt the function getFriends in user.php so that it selects friend_id from user_friends_oop5 instead of from user_friends.

I don’t like the idea of changing the class just for oop5. Should I just create another database with a users and modified user_friends table?

Hi there

The tasks in oop1-2 can be achieved with very few alterations to the provided code. Are these few changes that mirror the methodology of the rest of the code sufficient to achieve full marks? Or should we go a bit further to improve the code (ex: by not working with object attributes directly rather via get/set methods)?

I just notice that some free web hosting does not allowed to display the text file in the browser, and it return a blank page the same with the iframe.if you are experiencing this problem please try to find another free web hosting to get rid of it.

Hi Guys

Below code is from user.php.

I echo the variable being passed to it from user_find.php (as a test) and I see it, therefore the passing of variable $ID from user_find.php to user.php is correct.

Heres my code:

The getDisplayName() function doesn't return the value in {$this->display_name} for some reason but does for the {$this->user_id} variable and I am not sure why?
Again, the return statement in getDisplayName() returns the user_id variable but not the display_name variable??

What could be the problem?

Do we have to create separate databases for oop4 and oop5 in order to make the output match the one on the tutorial letter?
If only one database is required, which output is preffered, one for oop4 or one for oop5?

Hi, Anybody to help me people, I tried all my best but I can't get the answer. In user_find.php page, there is a User object called user e.g. $user = new User(), under this object I'm struggling on how to initialize a user_id from database, because in tutorial letter it is initialized like this

Language: PHP
$user->getUserById($ID);

, whereas it should be a number like this

Language: PHP
$user->getUserById(1);

, so if it a number, I dont think it a good idea because, I'll have to select from a list, in oop4.php
