Educational Technology

19

Educational technology is defined by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology as "the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using, and managing appropriate technological processes and resources."

Educational technology thus concerns the effective use of software and hardware tools, as well as processes, to facilitate learning and improving performance. Educational technology further refers to the use of educational theoretics. It encompasses several domains, including learning theory, computer-based training, online and e-learning, and, where mobile technologies are used, m-learning.

Bi-weekly group meetings serve a variety of purposes, but the broad categories are:

  • To promote discussion about the latest educational technology research and findings
  • To provide mentorship and support group members in various ways with their own research
  • To update group members on the research everyone else is doing
  • To foster a sense of community and thus collaboration between members
